I first tried this in bottle about three years ago when my local Safeway sold it, I loved it then and I love it now. Soft and creamy with a good bitter hoppy bite, there is a smooth malty character which lasts through to the finish. Cant say if the use of porridge oats contributes anything to the brew, but I like it lots, but at £2.50 a bottle from Teviot Smokery, between Kelso & Jedburgh,it will be a now & again treat, they have a small but good range of beers on the expensive side though. I tried this on draught in the Blue Blazer in Edinburgh a couple of years ago and it was even better( this pub is WELL worth a visit, well kept ales, good atmosphere)

I tried this beer on April 4, 2008 at “Smokeless Joe’s” in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark translucent gold colour with a fluffy white head that quickly died. The aroma was mainly grassy malt, but there was a hoppish hint. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was also a combination of grainy malt, with some bitter hoppiness thrown in for good measure. Definitely a better beer than both the Red Cuillin and the Black Cuillin.

I had my reservations about drinking a beer made from porridge oats. These soon dissapeared when I sipped rather gently at this one. A distinctive taste with a range of complex flavours make it a difficult beer to sum up.Some fruitiness with a taste of malt. Its one you either love or hate-I loved it.

Bottle. Malty aroma with cake dough and butter. Toffee. Full bodied, malty. Just a bit of pear and peach sourness. Some sweetness and a hint of glue. Otas and raisin. Lovely beer, both complex and very drinkable. A very pleasant surprise.

Bottle bought in Glasgow. Full flavour, lotsof malt, but some nice grassy hoppiness, too. Well balanced, multi-dimensional, a beer I would be happy to sip throughout the night.
