COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Made especially for our friend Bob Brenlin, proprietor of the Latona, Hopvine and Fiddler’s Inn Pubs in Seattle, this is the unleashing of hops in your face, and nose, and tongue and mouth! BIG AND HOPPY! Ingredients: Maris Otter and Munich Malts, Horizon and Amarillo Hops, PacMan Yeast, Free Range Cascade Water.

Draft at Brouwer’s Cafe Hopfest ’06. **NOTE**: This review applies to the DH "Arlen’s Goodbye" version, which may end up with a separate entry for all I know--and I’ll move it if it does. Amber, almost a dark amber, with a slightly offwhite head. There are rumors of malt in the attack and the mid-palate, but this beer is a true hop delivery vessel, like so many of the big west coast DIPAs and IIPAs Brouwer’s chose for Hopfest this year. Tsunami finish of piney resin, but the crescendo is appropriate somehow to the rather milder setup the rest of the beer provides. Harshly caustic, in fact, but not too crazy by West Coast IIPA standards--it’s beautifully done, big and refreshing. Notable ultimately for the big bitter blossom at the end and the loooong bitter finish.

Pint of this tasty beer experienced at Latona Pub in Seattle, WA--Soft wispy white head atop a deep hazy amber body. Eloquent bouquet hops nose with crispy cracker backbone and a sticky dry resonance that amalgamates the carious characteristics of its complexity. Quaffable, soothing with vibrant yet not overbearing grapefruity citrus waves that beckon any AMerican IPA lover.

I really liked this one. Pours copper with some brownish hues in the background. Lots of "contraband" hops in the nose. Super leafy, herbal. Really enjoyable nose for me. More leafy, herbal, dank hop flavors on top of a dry malty body that showcases the hops amazingly well. Not bitter, but hoppy. So many tasty juicy resins. God damn. I loved it.

Draught at the Latona, Seattle
Hazy dull amber colour. Bright, woody, slightly grapefruity hop nose. Rich hoppy character. Sharp contrasts within the hops...big piney depths and bright mango and passion fruit as well...all from hops...all at once. Throw in some guava and this is pretty cool. Finishes like fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice. The malt is there only as a skeleton. Tasty unbalanced IPA is a staple of Washington State.

Tap at the Latona Pub. Slightly hazy, orange-amber beer. Big fruity grapefruity aroma, tropical fruity, very juicy Amarillo hop character. Sweet malts play a backing role to the big juicy hop aroma. Flavour is also hop dominated, sweet citrusy flavour, light caramel, faint toast, but the hops are what this beer is all about. Sticky body, lingering bitterness. A bit herbaceous. A damn tasty beer.

Brewsmith (148) - Torrance, California, USA - AUG 9, 2010
On tap at the brewery 8-6-10. Pours a hazy deep gold with a thin white head. Bold hop flavors of citrus - grapefruit, lemon and tangerine. Malt is clean and dry with a slight biscuit note, but hop flavor dominates. Dry finish with lingering hop bitterness. A good IPA, a bit on the thin and dry side making the hops really in your face.

On tap @ Latona Pub. Pours medium amber with thin head. Light hoppy aroma but huge hop taste - floral, fruity, bitter. Pleasant malt body that sits in the background and lets the hops shine. Very drinkable and honestly compares favorably to many of Rogue’s IPA efforts.

Draft at Brouwer’s Cafe Hopfest ’06. Cloudy copper/amber with a white head. Aromas of pine and grapefruit. Light-ish body with medium carbonation. Lingering resin-bitter finish.

Cloudy amber with a light head and sheets of stringy, web like lacing. Aroma of pine and perfume with some citrus, maybe lemon. Sweet. Bitter hops in the flavor with pine and soapy notes. Grapefruit and floral hops flood the mouth with dose of malts, though not much. Thick and syrupy palate that is dry and leaves the mouth fuzzy. Ends with a strong, piney bitterness.
