Rogueone (365), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Jun 2, 2008 Sampled at Alan’s HSC initiation, thanks Dogbrick: Oooo expensive bottle: Pours a pale golden color with a sticky, frothy white head. Aroma is too sweet grains, old cheese, and a bit of cider vinegar. It is like a yeast blast to the face. Too sweet and yeasty for my tastes, sort of like someone’s mom I know...
notalush (2009), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Aug 16, 2008 Tap at Barcade - Rogue does a tripel - it’s pretty much what I expected - strong candi sugar aroma, some yeasty character, a tiny bit of tartness, honey, clove, and coriander - quite sweet flavor, too much so, in fact - it remains dominant for most of the experience, covering up a potentially complex array of spices - gets a little drier near the end, but after that it winds up tasting a bit like soap due to an odd floral and hop combination - I guess I’m glad I got to try it, but it wasn’t all that good. Headbanger (958), Aurora, Illinois, USA Aug 12, 2008 750 ml bottle-Pours a hazy cloudy orange with a big loose off white head that foamed everywhere on initial pour . Aroma of belgian yeast, candy, and slight alcohol. Taste of the same with a little sour, malt, and it finishes with a dryness. This medium bodied brew is not that bad but wish it had a bit more Belgain characteristics and sweetness. durhambeer (378), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 9, 2008 Okay, first things first: this bottle was an absolute pain in the ass to open. There was no string to pull to break the wax, so I had to use a knife. Then under the cap was a cork... so wax, a cap, and a cork for this beer? Really? Okay, so maybe I was also a wee bit drunk when trying to open it, but still... Anyway, this was an interesting beer and better than rating suggested to me. Also helped that I got a 750ml bottle on sale for $3.99. Quite hazy golden pour with white head. Probably not what most people would think of when they think of a tripel. It was more sour/vinegary/acetic/vegetal than sweet and spiced. Felt a little thin in the flavor department and not so complex, but the flavor was good in my book. I imagine this is a pretty divisive beer. I’ll buy another for $3.99. JCastner (21), New York, USA Aug 7, 2008 Not a bad effort (better than the rating suggests). Medium bodied copper pour with aroma of cooked carrots, olives, cloves and alcohol. Taste is of fruit and cloves. The finish burns. A little disappointing. ILoveNewBeer (81), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jul 27, 2008 I really like this beer. I bought it because of the frogs on the front and the fact that the French translation of "Menage" means housework. I went into Dirty John’s today and saw a guy with a bottle of it in his arm and asked him if he had had it. He said no and I told him it was a really good beer.
