3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask conditioned at The Royal Oak, Oxford. Gold with white head. This was a bit of a muddle, there was a honeyed sweetness, almost caramel alongside quite an astringent, pine like hop flavour. Bitter, sweetish. Slightly odd.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask conditioned handpump Pump House Brighton 21/05/13. A golden beer with a whitish head and lace. Noticeable hops which have a citrussy edge but there’s a caramelly sweetness which makes it not gel properly. A decent body but the hops aren’t allowed to shine enough. Late bitterness.

On tap at Queen’s Arms in Kensington. A golden ale of suitably safe means. Thin white head and some fruity notes. A nice summer, warm weather ale.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Golden brown, thin white head; light fruit, moderate bitterness, the merest hint of gooseberry from the NZ hops, a fairly standard boring bitter otherwise; although to be fair this was one of three mediocre beers tasted at the same pub - the Lambs Green Inn, Corfe Mullen - so perhaps the mediocre score is down to mediocre cellarmanship.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask @ The Windsor Castle. Light amber, tiny frothy head. The nose is herbal hop, piss. Rich mossy earth. Apricot. The taste is strong herbal hop. Shag tobacco. Coniferous forest. Wood. Some caramel. A bit ragged and out of control. Light body, soft carbonation. Overall, OK.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask @ Haymarket, Edinburgh
Amber, clear, dense white head, some lacing
Aroma - very light hop, soft zest, lemony kiwi
Taste of bitter zesty hops, light soft fruity pale malts, some slight grass in there, seems quite a complex hop, bitter palate
Palate - Light body, very bitter for the abv. Over dry and bitter linger
Overall - Finish is too dry, needs some more light pale malt sweetness, nice to try another hop...was reviewed 2 days before same pub below by Ashton so may be not in best condition

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap @ Haymarket Bar, Edinburgh. Pours pale with a light haze and a nice head. The nose has some fresh citrus as well as a decent level of biscuity malt. The taste pretty much confirms the nose. The palate is light to medium bodied with a zingy finish. Overall, as golden ales have become gradually lighter and less malty, this is not as dry and single dimensional as expected.
