COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven’t done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer’s new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Bottle. Pours a deep copper-red with an offwhite head that persists. Nose is nice. Citrusy and light caramel notes that actually work. somewhat fruity over all. On tasting, crisp bitterness and noted caramel character without being too sweet. Good citrusy cascades come through on the palate to balance it all out. Really nice Amber.

Bottle. Poured a dark amber with a tan head. Aromas of floral and caramel. Initial flavor found a nice roast and chocolate with a backing of hop. As it warmed the malt set back some and more hop came forward. Medium body with a mild bitterness. Lingering hints of dark chocolate in the aftertaste.

Mild spicy Cascade hop aroma with an off white one finger head. Subtle hazy amber color. Heavy malty with a hint of bitterness. The caramel malts offset sourness brought on by the hops. It’s OK but I’m not crazy about it. I will give them credit for making a strong hop beer drinkable.

Bottle. Pours hazy, orangish-red with a small, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and hops (grass, citrus and pine). Nice flavor of caramel and hops with some fruity notes. Very hoppy for an amber with citrus, grass and pine notes. Tasty.

Pours cloudy, copper/amber minimal tan head. nose is earthy, dough, bread, a bit of resin. once on the tongue, herbal/caramel malts, cereal, resin hops. not a lot of bitterness as this is well rounded, sessionable.

Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a just off-white head. A nice citrus hop quality to this one. Orange and grapefruit hops with a nice bit of piney hop character, too. Under that is a fair amount of caramel and sweet malt. The flavor is a bit on the sweeter side, but there still is some good citrus and pine hop flavor and bite to it, just a moderate bitterness. Medium in body and carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2011 Tap @ Pony. Murky, light brown pour with a bubbly, soapy head that vanishes quickly and leaves lacing near top of glass yet nowhere else. Aroma is faint but bready/doughy with some herb or light hops. Palate is intriguing and yet simple: hops upfront blended with vegetable/earthiness. Pretty clean and with moderate aftertaste. I could drink a lot of these, but wouldn’t go out of my way to do so.

Bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, orange zest, earthiness, pine and light grapefrut. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, pine, orange zest, light grapefruit and light earthiness with a smooth lingering lightly bitter citrus finish.
