decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Sep 30, 2008 Btl opened by jcwattsrugger. An amber/copper pour with tan head and lace. Brown sugar and light hops on the nose. Semi sweet malt with medium hops and the brown sugar thing again. A tad fizzy but solid. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Sep 30, 2008 Updated: Dec 29, 2008Draft at Hop Devil. Pours a thin amber body with a transient head. Aroma is sweet malt caramel and some grapefruit which comes through initally in the taste. Some etoh creeps into the finish. Decent beer. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2008 Pours out a dark mahogany color with a thick white head with a ton of stickyness. The smell is of a ton of hops with a lot of light malts right there with it. The hops come through mostly in the taste, but the malts linger in your mouth a little longer. Reminds me of a bizzaro Lagunitas Lucky 13, where I got the malts first, then the hops. Overall, a really good hoppy amber. otismulligan (34), Yardley, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle, poured a nice frothy head. good amber color. Medium body thin texture doesn’t overpower the senses. hoppy with a subtle sweetness. No, it isn’t "monstrously hoppy" as the bottle claims, but it’s a great tasting hoppy red ale nonetheless. jeff789 (359), Pennsylvania, USA Sep 15, 2008 This is not nearly hoppy enough for the name and label. If you take that away from it, i may have given it a higher rating. It does have a good deal of sweet malt backing up the generic hop flavor... I wouldnt go out of my way to drink this again with so many other quality options available... BossHossBikes (147), Tennessee, USA Sep 12, 2008 Bottle, best before October. Pours a dark orange with a two-finger frothy off-white head that creates some beautiful lacing. The aroma is of freshly cut white grapefruit. Some hint of hops, but the bouquet is mainly one-sided—very citrusy. The flavour is crisp. Grapefruit is the initial flavour. It’s not quite as dominant in the flavour as the aroma, but is still very prominent. As the brew starts to pass the tongue, some of the dry grain notes become noticeable as well as some subtle spices. Light hoppy bitterness bites the back of the tongue. Sweet, caramel flavours appear in the finish and outlasts the fainting bitterness. This is an easily quaffable beverage, great for a hot summer day. It wasn’t as hoppy as I was expecting, but I do like the amount of citrus. bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2008 Bottle: pours a reddish-brown with a frothy white head, aroma is hoppy, some caramel and citrus, taste is hoppy, burnt caramel, medium mouthfeel. Pretty solid. k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bottle - deep hazy amber body with ample tan foam from a moderate pour. Bubbles race to the surface,. Aroma is sweet malt, tofee and burnt sugar with ample spicy citrus hop notes. Flavor comes in initially spicy and bitter before the sweet caramel malt & burnt sugar flavors take over. This if followed by a nice hoppy citrusy & slightly resinous mid-flavor. Finishes spicy and bitter as the carbonation swells up through the end notes. As the glass warms, the sweetness intensifies.
