Commercial Description:
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven't done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer's new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

In short: An intense fruity hop-fix
How: Tap at Blue Tusk (Syracuse NY)
The look: Clear copper body with a medium beige head
In long: Strawberries wrapped in smooth caramel working admirably well with the coniferous and resinous hops. The type of hop-fix I came to expect from Willimantic. Medium-high sharp bitterness. Long finish. Carbonation appropriately aggressive. Quite tasty, somewhat intense and rather unconventional. Sometimes you just feel like something different, unusual, intense and aggressive, for some it means a S&M session, for me it means an Ithaca Casazilla.

Hoppy hoppy hoppy. This one surprised me. I thought it would be an ok beer. But it was good. A little malty which is nice but mostly hoppy. Red in color and nice mouth feel. Ill do this one again.

Bottle at DLD08. Clear orange pour with mild tan head. Nose is caramel malts, mild dried fruits, some honey and citrus. Sip starts with a mildly sharp piney bitter followed by citrus hops and caramel malts. Finishes mildly bitter. Not bad, pretty easy drinking.

Pours dark amber/copper. Sweet caramel malt aroma and some hops. Flavor is much the same, with a touch of dark fruit and maybe some honey. Average IPA body slightly sticky.

Bottle. Pours deep amber with thin off white head. Big malty aroma followed by piney hops and berries. Tasty. Kind of slick. Not very bitter, at least not for an IPA or Red ale or whatever the hell this is. Get a bit of grapefruit in the flavor though. Very decent beer. Worth trying.

Thanks to Andrew for the bottle. Pours clear reddish with a thick tan head. Earthy, citrus, hop aroma. Taste is very hoppy, bitter, citrus. Has a nice bit of malt in there trying to balance it Finishes with a bitter grapefruit finish. Tasty.

Monstrously hoppy red ale. Hmmm.. 2 things I don’t particularly care for - hops and reds. We’ll see. Clear amber body with a big tan head leaving good lacing. Fruity and piney aroma, with caramel undertones. Very grassy and floral bitterness upfront, with some sweet malt notes coming through. Incredibly long lasting bitter finish, with big hints of grapefruit and melon. Not a bad brew, and pretty easy to drink.

This beer is very drinkable. It has a nice amber hue with big hop aroma. Taste is a little disappointing given the aroma, but is a decent brew. Would drink again!
