Commercial Description:
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven't done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer's new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Bottle, poured a clean red/brown with a yellowish-white head. I would say an excellent addition to those who like IPA’s or those who think that IPA’s are too bitter.

Definately not an IPA, too balanced for that. Malt and hop aroma, with a thin hea. Nice hop flavor withouth too much of the overpowering stuff. Nice balance overall.

IPA eh? Seems more like an amber ale on roids. Hazy red color, nice fluffy white foam, a little lackluster in the lacing department. Moderately hoppy, more about the malt. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just if you’re going to brag about how hoppy a beer is, maybe you shouldn’t bury the hops under all that malt.

Pours a red-amber, soapy small head that fades relatively quickly. Very hoppy nose: citrus in grapefruit and orange, slightly earthy and floral. Good balance, very strong bitter hop presence up front - grapefruit, pine resin character that isn’t in the aroma. Caramel malt backbone, slight toffee sweetness, a bit of unpleasant, unrefined cereal notes. Slight alcohol presence, fusel-like, not a great addition. Solid carbonation, medium bodied mouthfeel, lasting bitter aftertaste.

Nice very deep and hazy amber coloured body with brown tints and a shade of ruby. Smallish tan head with some larger bubbles on the side of the glass. Aroma of pungent hops, strong malt, toffee, nuts and even a bit of metal. Medium-bodied; Strong hops up front in the taste fading to a bit of malt and some sweet caramel flavours near the end. Aftertaste shows some hops, but mostly rounded out malt - but this could be due to the age. Overall, a good showing from the beer, but not amazing. However, by me having this bottle for 4 years shows that it could still stand up over the time. I sampled this four year old bottle purchased from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York on 01-March-2008.

Nice reddish bronze color. Slight pale head - quickly diminished. The aroma and overall flavor is a face full of hops. I love this beer. It is sweet with a subtle malt flavor, but its all about the bitter, grassy hops. Will be buying more soon.

Bottle. Pours amber with an off white head. Very sweet and fresh aroma, with notes of floral hops, citrus fruits, and fresh grass. Medium body. Flavor is also very fresh and hoppy. Notes of lemon, grapefruit, and flowers. I really enjoyed this beer.
