KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 1, 2009 Draught at the NYS Wine and Culinary Center. Nice red-orange tinted amber with a fine head. Big cascade aroma, nice rounded caramel malt flavor. Very earthy, with big cascade flavor and a bit of chocolate. Very strong bitterness throughout, especially at the finish. A bit too highly carbonated, at least this time. Nice. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Sep 1, 2009 Dark and cloudy, with a good sized head. The aroma of pine and citrus from the hops hits you before the pour is finished. The bitterness comes on fast, but fades quickly, to a medium/heavy, sweet amber ale. Dryer than expected in the finish. AndyReynolds (280), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Sep 1, 2009 Bottle at Dayton Ale Fest. Pours a nice amber with a thin white head. Aroma is strong with hops, citrus, and sweet malts. Notes of grapefruit, pine, floral hops, and grass stand out. On the palate, it is a little chewy. The flavor is a little maltifer than I expected, bringing out a bit of carmel and biscuit aromas. It finishes nice and bitter. Overall, a pretty good beer, however maltier than an IPA should be. corby112 (677), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2009 Pours a hazy dark ruby red/copper color with a one finger frothy off-white head that slowly receeds into a lasting cap that coats the pint with soapy rings of lacing.
Hoppy piney floral aroma with a hint of rye and a nice caramel biscuity malt backbone.
Very bitter and hop forward with a strong resinous piney hop mouthfeel. Caramel malt backbone with some biscuit notes and a slight touch of rye. The strong bitterness of the hops lasts throughout lingering over the malt backbone into a resinous bone dry piney hop finish. RoJoNo (19), Ohio, USA Aug 19, 2009 Bottle at Black Creek Bistro; good color, pleasant aroma; hefty hops balance the sweet arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Aug 17, 2009 I originally wanted to try this beer based upon an ad in some beer magazine, marketing works. I like the label with a lizard breathing fire and red hops. Cool name too, I assume this is heavily hopped with cascades based upon the name. The color id a nice orange red. It has a very nice malty and hoppy smell like a good barleywine almost. The taste is chewy, some malts and finishes with a nice hop bitterness that is quite enjoyable. Thanks to Wasatch for the trade, this is enjoyable.

A little less hoppy then I was expecting but still some nice piney flavor and some bitterness. Overall a solid ipa from Ithaca. Sonicdescent (374), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 6, 2009 Very nice pour, thick fluffy head, great carbonation, red/brown liquid. Scent is citrusy hops over a very light malt background. Taste, similar to scent, but not as overpowering as a fresh nugget nectar. Cascade hops over a caramel background. Good, but nothing special. Palate is acceptable.
