The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven’t done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer’s new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Bottle. Pours nice dark amber with a medium off white head. Bottle is apparently out of date unfortunately. As such the aroma is mostly dead hops. Dead hops in the taste as well, but the nice thing there is that lets the beers awesome malt bill shine. Nice chocolate and caramel notes. Medium palate with solid carbonation. This beer has a lot of potential so I'm going to seek out a fresh bottle and re-rate.

Bottle to shaker glass, pours cloudy deep amber, 1+ finger dense khaki head, some lacing but awesome retention. Aroma of caramel and wildflower fields. Taste is somewhat sweet but has a nice earthy bitterness that balances. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, creamy mouth feel. Finishes bitter. Tasting notes of herbs, caramel, toffee, plum and roast. A nice amber ale.

Appearance: pours with a large beige head, the beer is a hazy and dark amber color, settles into a dense head Aroma: faint biscuit, alcohol, faint grain, almost whisky Taste: very balanced sweet and bitter taste, malt sweetness is slightly smoky and spicy, the bitterness is mild, some alcohol is evident Palate: soft carbonation, full mouthfeel, syrup aftertaste Overall: not a bad beer, more malt than hops, the alcohol is noticeable but not overbearing, smokey ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4oz draft at Spacebar. Dark copper with bare white head. A: floral and citrus hops over caramel malt. T: bitter hop dominating the malt base. More of an APA really, and not a particularly good one.
