UPDATED: AUG 7, 2006 Bottle from Premier Gourmet. Pours amber red with nice off white head. Sweet caramel and floral hop aroma. Mouthfeel is a tad thin. Nicely balanced flavor of citrusy hops and sweet malt that finishes bitter, spicy, and slightly resinous. Pretty one dimensional, but that did not bother me. A tasty session that you can drink and not overanalyze.

bottle pours a murky brown with a small offwhite head. Aroma of bread, prunes, grapefruit, dough, and a little booze. A little too bready. Bottle was probably past its prime. Oh well.

Poured a translucent red amber with a creamy, lacing white head. Aroma is great, sweet and malty, but also hoppy with pine and lemon. Flavor was heavy on the citrus and very bitter, but caramel and candy on the end really smoothes things out. Finish is bitter but very drinkable.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 6/29/10
Aroma: The nose has some sweet caramel, a good amount of fruit, hops, and some bread-like characteristics
Appearance: It pours a slightly hazy amber color with a creamy beige head that sheet-laces the glass.
Flavor: The taste is moderately sweet (caramel and some grapefruit) with a hop presence for balance.
Palate: It has a medium-full body, soft carbonation, surprisingly short duration, and a somewhat sticky feel.
Overall Impression:
I tend to be a big fan of these hoppy Amber IPA-like beers, and while I think this one is pretty good, it isn’t as great as some of the other beers I’ve had in this style. Anyway, I do like it, it has a pretty good hop presence but remains balanced enough. On the other hand, the finish is so abrupt that it ruins the beer just a bit. I just don’t really get why, but for some reason each sip seems to be completely out of my mouth by the time I tilt the glass back to the up-right position. Very odd, and surprising for this style. I like it, but I have to take away some points for that issue.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MrChopin (2213) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 27, 2009
Amber with a thin white head. Balanced nose of fresh pine and biscuit. Flavor is similar with earthy pine, biscuit, and some sweet orange. Thin and salty but very balanced and rather enjoyable, particularly as the fresh hop is allowed to shine in comparison to the balanced malt.
