Commercial Description:
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven't done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer's new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Bottle from capone’s. Reddish-amber color with a medium head. Aroma is dominated by some nice grapefruit-citrusy hops and strong caramel malts. Flavor is hoppy, but has too much caramel malt to be really good. Decent feel. Tone down the malt a tad, and this would be even better.

12oz bottle shared by BOLTZ7555 – thanks J! Pours slightly hazy amber with a half finger light tan head. The nose is sweet caramel and floral hops. The taste is toffee and earthy hops with some sweet citrus in the finish. Medium bodied – an OK IPA. A bit subdued.

Bottle. Thanks to TomDecapolis. Deep orange body with a nice size head. Citrusy aroma - grassy. Flavor is sweetened with hops, citrus, and a mild bitterness to it. A little syrupy but decently balanced. Finishes decent.

Gifted by JoMcPhee, gracious. 12 oz bottle poured into goblet glass. Pours dark reddish amber with a small head. Aroma is strong with oily, juicy, grapefruit hoppiness. Slight caramel malt sweetness. As it warms strong candy sugar sweetness comes out. Taste is a bit watered down but still strong on the hop. A medium bitterness at the end. A slight sweet aftertaste. A bit thin and watery body. A nice hoppy sensation with a bit too watey flavor.

Bottle. Pour is a reddish brown and aromas are definitely Cascade hops based. Pine and grapefruit dominate, but there is a bit of a malt sweetness underlying. Flavor shows an unbalance... there is not enough of a malt structure to support that much hops and it comes off as lopsided. Then again, if you want a hops drink, this is for you.

A very unimpressive IPA, just about brown in color with an off-white head, no lacing left behind, the aroma was a little sweet with some caramel & chocolate hints, the body was light & watery, only a subtle flavor of hops was present, they could have taken some of the hops of their Pils & added it to this beer, it could definitely use a lot more, the finish was bready & only slightly dry & bitter, definitely a poor IPA

(Draught) Reddish brown and clear. Small white head. Pine, fruitiness and malts in aroma. Medium bodied palate with medium carbonation. Malts, pine, bitterness, fruitiness, lightly molasses and hint of roastedness in taste. Bitterness and pine in aftertaste.

Bottle, best by 10/2008. Pours a dark brown/amber with a small white head. Aroma of bitter hops and light sweet malt. Flavor is pretty similar- nice light sweet malt (quite malty for an IPA) and light, slightly piney hops. Not so hoppy for an IPA per se; it flirts with being an amber ale, ASA, and IPA. Regardless of classification, it was a decent brew and pretty tasty.
