Commercial Description:
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven't done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer's new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

The label looks like it belongs on a video game. Full, hoppy aroma. Rich pine and grapefruit flavored hops (Cascade). Solid malt backing. A fine IPA. I tried it on tap too, and it was very good, full flavored and rich.

Bottle shared at fordest house. A very nice IPA. More malt detected then hops. But still losts of citrus and some pine.

Pours a hazy dark ruby red/copper color with a one finger frothy off-white head that slowly receeds into a lasting cap that coats the pint with soapy rings of lacing. Hoppy piney floral aroma with a hint of rye and a nice caramel biscuity malt backbone. Very bitter and hop forward with a strong resinous piney hop mouthfeel. Caramel malt backbone with some biscuit notes and a slight touch of rye. The strong bitterness of the hops lasts throughout lingering over the malt backbone into a resinous bone dry piney hop finish.

Bonus bottle courtesy of blipp. Pours a deep amber color with mild carbonation and a trim beige head. Smells and tastes of crisp hops, caramel, aromatic citrus blossom, and faint notes of red grapes and apples. Drys slightly on the finish, but a fine beer that I would regularly drink if I could.

Aroma is rustic earthy, and somewhat floral. pours reddish amber with good head and is transparent. flavor is mix of earthy hops with some carmel that in my opinion doesn’t meld together well. mediium palate. an okay beer.

bottle: pours orange cooper with a large white head. aroma is of citrus hops. flavour is of citrus hops like in the nose but a caramelly malt also. seems to be some spice too. finishes a bit bitter compared to the sweet start.

On tap at the Dinosaur BBQ place in Rochester, NY. Poured a nice ruby/brown color with a thin white head. Aroma was some cascade hops, but not nearly as hoppy as iwas expeciting. A lot of malt aromas came through, some good biscuit and bread with some caramel undertones all mixed in with an apparent but not overwhelming hop character. Flavor was more of the same, but if anything the hops were tamed down even a little more. The beer was also just a touch on the watery side. Pretty tasty all around though.

355 mL. (Says best before Sept, but it doesn’t say which year!) Reddish brown with a thick film of head. The hops (grapefruit and maybe some pineapple) are there in the aroma, but there is also some caramel sweetness. The flavour is quite sweet as well, but the hops dominate, both in terms of flavour and finish. Not bad, but nowhere near the complexity or refinement of Mill Street’s Tankhouse Ale.
