COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven’t done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer’s new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

12 oz bottle. Amber pourwith an off white head. Resiny pine nose, some grapefruit. Nice balance of hops and malts in the flavor, can it be bittersweet? Yes, it can! Bitter, sweet malt and pink grapefruit flavors dominate, with a light caramel in the background. More citrus in the finish, very nice!

Bottle at home, shared with Cole, out of my Minneapolis Town Glass. Pours hazy deep orange/copper, thin cream head, decent lacing. Nose is caramel, sticky hops, really balanced nose, with plenty of sweetness and hops, just what I’m looking for in an Amber. Flavours of spicy hops, light vague citrus, mostly pine notes here... Not the world’s greatest beer, but an above average Amber.

Bottle from a trade with BlackIPA. Pours slightly hazy dark amber color with off white head. Aromas of toasted malts, cereal grains, and some citrus. Caramel malt flavor with some citrus. Medium body with average carbonation. A nice amber ale. Thanks Shawn.

This is beer that I’m revisiting for the first time in a couple years. It’s the brewer’s best known product, and in spite of the fire breathing hop-lizard on the label, I’ve always found it to be more malty than hoppy. Aroma is a grainy, gravelly and just a little piney. Only when tasted do the hops really shine through, with India pale level bitterness. This is about as red as an ale can get without additives. Body will dry out the palate in a hurry. A solid entry to the massive amber category, but never quite what I remember.

Basically a Red IPA. Copper/amber color with a good head retention. Creamy and fullbodied with earthy caramel flavors. Nice malt sweetness and balanced by the addition of lots of citrus/piney hops ( cascade). Earthy sweet aroma. Great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Bottle thanks watson1977. Pours clear dark amber with a soapy tight off white head that fizzes to a wispy film and soapy collar. Aroma is malty grain and faint hops are present. Taste is bitter and nice with the malt showing though with grain and mellow musty caramel. Palate is medium and slick with a very drying finish. Solid brew, but the hops or the caramel malt are not showing like I was expecting. Non the less a very enjoyable beer!

Pours a clear dark amber color. Aroma is a little bit more on the hoppy side. There’s also some grain and bread present. Flavor is also a little hoppy with grass grain and chocolate. Leaves a hoppy malt finish.

Reddish color. Hop aroma up front. A little fruity but masked by hops. Taste is smooth first, then nice and hoppy. A bitter citrusy hop.

Tap @ brewery. Cloudy, reddish orange appearance with a cream colored head and good lacing. Toasty, caramel malty, a touch nutty, slightly piney, organic hoppy aroma. Nutty, toffee flavor with a healthy dose of piney, earthy hops.

Unfortunately served too cold. Nice, malty balanced ale. I have tasted this at the brewery in New York, so I know this is a winner. It's too bad many bars don't get that serving the beer ice cold is not best. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
