4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Glouglouburp (4783) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 11, 2008
In short: An intense fruity hop-fix
How: Tap at Blue Tusk (Syracuse NY)
The look: Clear copper body with a medium beige head
In long: Strawberries wrapped in smooth caramel working admirably well with the coniferous and resinous hops. The type of hop-fix I came to expect from Willimantic. Medium-high sharp bitterness. Long finish. Carbonation appropriately aggressive. Quite tasty, somewhat intense and rather unconventional. Sometimes you just feel like something different, unusual, intense and aggressive, for some it means a S&M session, for me it means an Ithaca Casazilla.

12oz bottle-pours a rich light tan head that laces and copper color. Aroma is sweet citrus/pine (cascade) hops, medium malt-caramel, brown sugar. Taste is sweet citrus/pine (cascade) hops with a bite. OK/mild carbonation. Thanks decaturstevo for picking this out.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2010 The aroma is hard to nail down, but has clear elements of bready malts, sweet caramel, and some piney, floral and earthy hops (not as many hops as I might have thought, i.e. not really hop forward). The appearance is beautiful, a nice copper red/chestnut brown, sizeable white head. The flavor is bread, caramel, brown sugar, citrus. The finish is a lingering bitterness from citrus hops, like grapefruit. The mouthfeel is medium in thickness. Good representation of the style, enjoyable beer overall. I think the commercial description of this guy as a highly hopped red ale (or amber ale) is actually accurate.

12oz. bottle - pours amber brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is a healthy and inviting hit of cascade hops against a stronge caramel malt background. Medium body. Flavour is the same, with apple and citrus notes blending well with the malt. Good piney notes in the middle. Extremely drinkable with a satisfyingly bitter/dry finish. Very good. Love those cascades.

Dark amber, semi-sweet floral hoppy malty aroma. Flavor is very strong of hops(duh) , bitterness is not too overwhelming but does give you a kick. Nicely balanced, recommended for Hop-Heads!

Bottle at Peculier pub. Poured a dark brown with a decent beige head. Nose is denominated by the sweet, roasted malt aroma; the hops barely break through. In the flavor you can detect a bit more of the hop character, although the backbone of this beer was definitely the malts, which made the beer quite sweet with notes of caramel and creamy toffee. Nicely bodied, very filling and smooth. Pretty darn tasty.

Aroma: Pine and grapefruit oils.
Taste: Burnt sugar, resinous pine, dark chocolate, earthy dirty hops. Finishes with lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with modest carbonation.
Overall: Pretty delicious, beautiful malt body with a great dosage of hop bitterness.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a reddish/brown color with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is pine and citrusy (grapefruit) hops, and some caramel malt. Taste is just like the aroma, it’s all pine/citrusy hops and caramel malt. There’s good balance between the hops and malt, and there’s also a nice lingering bitter hoppy finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit creamy and is well carbonated. Drinkability is good, I think it’s easy and enjoyable to drink. I think it’s a good beer, I’d buy this again.
