The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you havenít done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beerís new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Hazy red body, off-white creamy thick head. Interesting aroma... fruity hops that almost have a bright, fruity brett character. Maybe it isnít brett, but it is a fleshy, tomato-like thing that maybe Iíve noticed in a bretty beer. Fizzy body, fleshy fruit hops. Some toasty malt. It isnít too bad, but just not in my alley. The flavor is kind of old tasting, but Iím not sure it was there to begin with. That and the fizziness makes it awkward.

Bottle to shaker glass, pours cloudy deep amber, 1+ finger dense khaki head, some lacing but awesome retention. Aroma of caramel and wildflower fields. Taste is somewhat sweet but has a nice earthy bitterness that balances. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, creamy mouth feel. Finishes bitter. Tasting notes of herbs, caramel, toffee, plum and roast. A nice amber ale.

Appearance: pours with a large beige head, the beer is a hazy and dark amber color, settles into a dense head Aroma: faint biscuit, alcohol, faint grain, almost whisky Taste: very balanced sweet and bitter taste, malt sweetness is slightly smoky and spicy, the bitterness is mild, some alcohol is evident Palate: soft carbonation, full mouthfeel, syrup aftertaste Overall: not a bad beer, more malt than hops, the alcohol is noticeable but not overbearing, smokey ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4oz draft at Spacebar. Dark copper with bare white head. A: floral and citrus hops over caramel malt. T: bitter hop dominating the malt base. More of an APA really, and not a particularly good one.
