COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name CascaZilla is a play on both the name of our local Cascadilla Gorge and the monster amounts of Cascade hops in this beer. This red ale gets its distinctive color from a healthy portion of caramel malt, which also lends some body and sweetness to the beer. The predominant flavor and aromoa of this beer, however, is brought to you by the fresh American hops. If you haven’t done so yet, treat yourself to Ithaca Beer’s new monstrously hoppy Red Ale.

Hazy red body, off-white creamy thick head. Interesting aroma... fruity hops that almost have a bright, fruity brett character. Maybe it isn’t brett, but it is a fleshy, tomato-like thing that maybe I’ve noticed in a bretty beer. Fizzy body, fleshy fruit hops. Some toasty malt. It isn’t too bad, but just not in my alley. The flavor is kind of old tasting, but I’m not sure it was there to begin with. That and the fizziness makes it awkward.

Pours a chestnut brown with a full off white head. Aroma is unmistakeable cascade hop and maltiness. Taste is bready graininess, a touch of alcohol then passing to hop finish. Very well built and quite enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a murky brownish with medium foamy head. Mild hop aroma. There are some hints of citrus hop flavor and a solid malt backbone. Not too bitter. Pretty good overall.

Bottle from wegmans. Pours clear copper with a medium sized off white head. The aroma has a lot of hoppy notes.. A good bit of astringency. The taste is dry, bitter, and very hoppy. Really nice.

pinkie (145) - New York, USA - MAY 25, 2013
UPDATED: JUN 3, 2013 Pours cloudy, amber with ruby highlights. An off white head of creamy foam that fell slowly and left a cap with some fine , sticky lace. Nose is toasted malt, fat, sweet and nutty. There is the faintest whisper of chocolate. Light yeast. Hops are earthy with orange, grapefruit and dark fruits behind that. Light sweet pine and a little dank and oak as it warms. Taste is mellow and malt forward with toasty caramel, bread and grain. Toffee sweetness. Hops are oily and bitter with some light sweet pine, citrus and floral. Body is a little on the heavy side with a little butter and prickly carbonation. Finishes dry with a short lived bitter on the back palate and another whisper from the chocolate as the malt steals the show again to bring it to bittersweet. It’s not boozy but it is rich.
