Commercial Description:
Made with 100% New York State hops. India Pale Ale (IPA) is a style of beer renowned for its hop character. Some modern brewers have taken this tradition to the next level with the "Double IPA". What better way to parade the potential of NYS hop farming than with our new Double IPA. Hop farming once thrived in New York State. In the early 1900s, 95% of all hops used in the US were grown here in New York. However, soon the combination of crop disease & prohibition put an end to local hop growing. There is a new movement afoot to bring commercial hops back to NY. The Ithaca Beer Co. has teamed up with Pederson Farms (Seneca Castle, NY) to bring you this exceptional ale.

2008 Flour City Brew Fest. Some hop aroma to this beer. Light clear orange color with a lasting small white head. Initial sweet malt taste turning to bitter hops. Finishes with a good amount of citrus hop flavor.

Pours a two finger cream head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving no lace. Cloudy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Grapefruit nose. Flavor is hoppy grapefruit with hints of sweetness. Some lingering bitterness. $2.29 for a 12oz bottle from Yankee Spirits South Attleboro, Ma.

Draft. Pours hazy orangy copper with off-white head. Nose is piney hops, grapefruit, mango, honeydew, black pepper. Tastes citric, hoppy, with a lot of tropical/citrus fruity flavors matched by a decent malt bill and some late peppery and perfumy floral notes. Solid balance and complexity make this a very good IIPA.

Pours a bright, hazy golden orange with a dense one-finger head that dissipates fairly quickly to a ring leaving sporadic lacing. The smell is surprising sweet with peaches and apricots on top of the big citrus hop base. There is also some caramel malts in the nose as well. The taste doesn’t quite deliver on the unique smell and is a mix of citrus and pine and some bready malts. It has an abrasive bitterness through the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and very sticky with strong carbonation. This is an interesting DIPA though I wish the flavor measured up to the unique aroma. Still worth trying.
