3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle via mixed 12 pack from Spirits Berkley. Poured a super deep dark red body under a small to tiny fizzy beige head. Aroma of pineapple and vanilla extract layered between old bread dipped in stale red wine and some sherry. Fuller body with average carbonation and a super dry body that realy hides the crazy high 11% ABV. Flavor is very similar to the aroma with stale bread and old red wine and sherry dominating. Blah not my cup of tea unless you want to get anice buzz going.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, notched "best before Feb." Pours clear, dark red and ruby-colored, with a small orange and beige head. Aromas of spicy floral and piney hops, grass, and some sweeter malty elements (raisin, caramel). The flavor is bitter grass at first, but followed immediately by a flood of unexpected smoked malt and peat, with notes of bacon and smoked meat. Alcohol heat is present, with a bitter grassy finish. Aftertaste is meaty, smoky, and spicy. Low to medium carbonation, and full-bodied, lending a creamy mouthfeel with a warming quality. Thick and lovely on a cool evening. This is pretty good; the smoky qualities were interesting, but not unwelcome. This drinks really easy for 11%.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle best before Jan/Feb of the coming year. Nose is very hoppy, a blast of slightly sweet wood (pine), resin, some base caramel. A jolting berry/fruity note right up the middle. Pours a deep, cloudy copper with solid ruby highlights and a dense tan head under lace and light legs. Strongly bitter taste with very big but barely-controlled alcohol; medium sweetness and a light herbal/vegetal note. Bitterness is nicer in the aftertaste. Full body nears obesity, really warms up the chest, stickies lips. Resin is smoothed out, the malt is dull but fairly rounded, faint citrus under very heavy pine and light berry, perhaps some cherry and peach, melon. Best part is the very first flavor I recognized, the dense blast of smoke, and how it recedes and winds its way around the others. Dank, muscular hops and some good complexity from the malt bill, though I suspect thereís a little too much segmentation there and consequently íwhite noiseí washout; but ultimately fresh and satisfying.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle. light cola color, small tan head. huge, wet, hop aroma. some caramel sweetness in the background. first taste is a real mix of flavors to sort out. hops, sweetness. bit of a burn in the finish offset by the touch of sweetness and hops. I tend to drink a lot less hops in the winter months, but I could see myself sipping one of these in the evening like I would a big stout.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from the mixed 12 pack. Pour has a brown color with a cap of off white head that fell back to a ring. Aroma has sweet malt, perfume, pine, faint citrus, caramel, and some fruits. Light alcohol is there when you take a big sniff and bits of dank bud pop in and out. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation is medium high. Flavor has some smokey roast, rich malts, perfume, dark fruits, pie spices, pine, and caramel sweetness. This is quite a big beer and the alcohol does come through but it does not become too much rather lending some heat. The burnt and roasted side really came out in the flavor lending an almost peat flavor at times. More of a barley wine in drinking and the hop flavors do start to come through once you adjust to the strength of it.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This pours hazed and with a tea like color that sports ruby red hues around the edges. Had a finger of foam that fell slow enough to a thin layer on top then a thin ring. Shimmering wet lace but not much of it and alcohol legs. Itís 11 percent abv.
The nose is similar to the original Cascazilla and I really like that. It greets you with the dry scent of cocoa powder. Itís light with a touch of malt sweetness and a floral hops that is shear perfume. They donít blast out at you with any one fruit but give a gentle overall fruity quality that reminds one of sweet grapes. Itís woody and the the malt has a touch of crusty bread on it. Thereís a faint hint of char and thatís a surprise. I thought I noticed a trace of cinnamon and a little burnt grain. No alcohol on the nose. There is a touch of pine but itís so very light.
It drinks so light you keep looking at it. It has a nice fruity hop quality without oil, and without an aggressive bitter. The dryness of the grain is firm and the bread is soft. The alcohol adds dryness too. The malt sweetness is light and the fruit is also light and bright. There is a touch of smoke in the finish and that makes the cocoa powder dance on the palate. It smells like some kind of woody tree with a bright floral scent. The alcohol is warming and itís a touch boozy. I like it like that. The body of the beer is like silk and without hop oil or too much bitter it goes down so easy. It smells and tastes a little like cognac. Superb.
Very well done! I would buy this again. And it appears to be food friendly as I have paired it with lobster bisque and it was light enough to not mask the cream or the delicate lobster. I also had that with garlic tuscan bread and the burnt grain and crusty bread in this took the light garlic flavor very well. Congratulations Ithaca this one is great!
