Thanks, Mike! Dark brown with a thin caramel head. Spicy aroma with lots of hops and a subtle dark malt accent. Strong, with lots of alcohol. Creamy body. Hints of woody hop bitterness with also a lot of sweetness and light toffee notes.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Capped 750 from Half Time. Itís been around awhile. Pours fairly black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is malty and earthy. Med + body. Flavor is malt, chocolate, and some earthy/floral hop. Think this one has been around long enough to lose the original hop intensity. But the chocolate and other flavors make it a good drink.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 mL bottle. Not quite stout black with a small, short-lived yellow-brown head. The aroma has chocolate and roasted walnuts from the malts, and pine and tart citrus from the hops. The flavour has a couple of stages, with some lighter, surprisingly herbal flavours up front - maybe even light spearmint. The second half has more malty flavours, kinda like a caramilk bar.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The aroma is chocolate, fruit, bread. The appearance is black, off-white head. The flavor is like the aroma, chocolate, sweet, boozy. The finish is roast, pine needles. Medium/thick in body. Very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle, picked up at Ithaca Brewing Co, sampled at tasting on 18 November 2012. Clean and dark. Good firm, tangy hops throughout. Lots of grapefruit and a robust bitterness. Some bitter chocolate on the palate, roasty notes less so. A little less in the flvour than in the aroma. Maybe just a touch light of body but otherwise an excellent and tasty black hoppy beer (whether or not you call it a black IPA).

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
750mL bottle with just a crown. Nose has some roast but otherwise itís bright hops, lightly earthy but mostly zinging citric hops that really sing -- a little FFF here. Very dark brown body with a creamy, rocky tan head. Taste is sweet and yeasty, both yeast and hops remind of Belgian exemplars, very floral, but the fruitier elements devolve into a medicinal finish. Medium bitterness but clean and cleansing, thereís some soft wheat. Pepper and lavender, spicier saison-type notes, and some fat if muddled earthy caramel. Full body, soft and smooth, with strong but somewhat well-integrated alcohol. Itís not fantastic, partially because of muddle but also because of its undefined mission -- what is this supposed to be? What does it wantto be?

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle share with charule. Pours a black color. Initial aroma of hops. It quickly went way to the aroma of an old malt bomb. Can't do too much of this one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A dark brown beverage, mild carbonation, and a bubbly fine foam head. The aroma is of pine, oily alpha hops, wheat grain, and there is a sweetness to this Excelsior. The flavor is bitter, hoppy, full of malts, and it has a wheat twist. The finish was of grains, bittering hops, and a lite sugar sweetness from the malts. Overall the hops and grains dominated my mouth in a good way and it was not too complex. Cheers.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from a canalís Woodbridge. Pours pitch black with a big off white- twn I head. Aroma is of some chocolate, light sweetness, some mild bitterness, earth, leather, light brownie batter. Taste is complex, sweet cocoa, light caramel, earth, some fruity notes, pine sap bitterness, light citrus, mild toasted malts. Complex despite the apparent age, this one was solid.
