4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Great use of hops in this dark ale. Very flavorful with all the right stout flavors and maybe some figs? Very tasty and malty, without an overbearing after-taste. Nose is just a little deceiving. I just wished they called it what it is: a cascadian dark ale.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Capped 750 from Half Time. It’s been around awhile. Pours fairly black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is malty and earthy. Med + body. Flavor is malt, chocolate, and some earthy/floral hop. Think this one has been around long enough to lose the original hop intensity. But the chocolate and other flavors make it a good drink.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 mL bottle. Not quite stout black with a small, short-lived yellow-brown head. The aroma has chocolate and roasted walnuts from the malts, and pine and tart citrus from the hops. The flavour has a couple of stages, with some lighter, surprisingly herbal flavours up front - maybe even light spearmint. The second half has more malty flavours, kinda like a caramilk bar.

The aroma is chocolate, fruit, bread. The appearance is black, off-white head. The flavor is like the aroma, chocolate, sweet, boozy. The finish is roast, pine needles. Medium/thick in body. Very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle, picked up at Ithaca Brewing Co, sampled at tasting on 18 November 2012. Clean and dark. Good firm, tangy hops throughout. Lots of grapefruit and a robust bitterness. Some bitter chocolate on the palate, roasty notes less so. A little less in the flvour than in the aroma. Maybe just a touch light of body but otherwise an excellent and tasty black hoppy beer (whether or not you call it a black IPA).
