3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Straw in color, somewhat pale, otherwise hazy, large sudsy white head, falls quickly, very little lacing, lively carbonation.   Slightly floral/yeasty aroma, pale wheat, very minor alcohol.   Seems like pale Saison crossed with a teeny tiny Tripel.   Bright breadiness on the tongue, soft floral aspects, somewhat wheaty.   This certainly fits the bill for a Strong Pale Wheat Ale.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Does seem to finish somewhat quick.   Clean, warming floral and bready finish.   Definitely like a dulled Tripel mated with a muted Saison and/or underspiced Witbier.   Tasty, but overall somewhat boring.   Spice it up a bit and then we’re talking!   As it warms the alcohol becomes a bit more apparent.   Thanks Dan for this rare treat!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pure yellow. Vigorous pour yields merely a small white head which rapidly collapses. Well-integrated aromas of flowers, plasticy phenols, yeast, sprucey hops, and crackery wheat. Whisper of bubblegum and peach. Lush carbonation. Bottle conditioned. Tight medley of biting yeast, juicy yet understated hops, and vibrant wheat. Texture of the malt is far from grainy, but contains a briskness which brightens the slippery esters and refined hoppiness. Delicate drop of unripe peach acidity increases drinkability while enhancing the grassy bitterness and crackery wheat character. Oily hops never become overly acidic but provide an addictive sting which lends a mild numbing effect to the palate. Alcohol and crisp malt cleanse the palate and rid it of the sticky esters and slightly sappy hops. Slippery fruitiness is thankfully offset by an ever so coarse tease of pine-needle prickliness. Finish is short-lived but very clean and properly attenuated. Minty/leafy hops, gummy yeast, and a starchy maltiness manage to linger a short while after the swallow. While I don’t find this to be especially interesting, I’m delighted by the overall integration. Thanks to jah noth for the bottle!

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rated while drinking: Pours a caramel cider hazy color with a fluffy white head. There is some insane lacing going on in this glass. True to it’s name sake, so far this beer looks like ’white gold’. Heavy wheat aroma followed by a snap of yeast, backed by some banana and clove elements. Incredible fresh wheat in the mouth, followed by flavor notes of spices and more Trappist yeast at the end. Quite Belgian-like! Crisp and smooth on the palate... very drinkable for this type of beer. Another great beer from Ithaca. These Excelsiors are superb and Ithaca should be extremely proud!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle #412. Pale orange-gold beer with a thick white head. Aroma is quite spicy with lots of wheaty aroma as well. Clove and light lemony citrus. A bit of black pepper. Warming brings up loads of herbal hoppiness. Some lean fruitiness, spice and grass. Flavour is nicely done. White peper, wheaty spice and light yeasty phenolics. Citrus and herbs. There is some light zesty/fruity hops that come up on the back. Floral flavours also pick up as the beer starts to warm. Nice and refreshing.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden yellow with a bright white head. Surprisingly clear considering the amount of sediment in the bottle, if you stir up the yeast, it turns very cloudy. Aroma is musty and estery, with notes of pear and coriander. Earthy mustiness in the flavor, along with bubblegum and clove and a slight lemony tartness. Dry hoppiness in the mildly peppery finish. A nice summertime brew, I was surprised to see this weighs in at 8% ABV.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a hazy golden color with a small, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of coriander, orange peel, honey, citrus fruits, vanilla, and an odd scent reminiscent of curry. Taste of citrus fruits, toffee malts, coriander, white pepper, and a bit of alcohol in the finish.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle #737. This is a wine bottle, but it has a cap under the wrapper, not a cork. Slightly fruit aroma; pours a cloudy yellow. Medium body with a decent amount of fizz. The flavor hits all parts of the tongue: citrusy and herbal with a dry finish. I couldn’t really feel the 8% ABV until after drinking the whole bottle. Better than Partly Sunny, but not worth $8-9 for this Imperial Witbier. Maybe one of the other Excelsior! brews will justify the line.

[477-20070728] 1pt9.4floz (Bottle 923, w/ ducttape, jerc). Citrus peel hops and wheat aroma with a little boozy garbage. Hazy, light orange yellow body with a quick bubbly white head. More lemon peel in the flavour with wheaty booze and some spices. Medium-full body. Nice wheat but there is something wanting.
