COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ground Break is our new spring seasonal… it’s an Americanized (hoppy) Saison. It’s brewed with generous amounts of Amarillo, Crystal and Glacier hops (none added during the boil by the way- only first wort, whirlpool and dry-hop additions) and flaked rye. It’s fermented with a blend of Dupont and Chico yeasts. Very dry, ample yeast character, and hoppy. We’ve brewed a couple of batches so far, and expect it to start showing up on draft first, then in 6-packs and our variety 12-pack in February. It’ll last until May or so when we start rolling out this year’s version of Partly Sunny, our summer Wit-style beer! This will show up everywhere that our seasonal brews and variety packs are found: NY, PA, CT, MA, RI, NJ and OH.

Pepper, lots of pepper. On tap. A hazy light gold color with a thin small white head. Aroma and taste is just pepper with a bread backbone. I was very disappointed in this one.

Poured on draft. Pours a hazy straw color with a white head of foam. Aroma is grassy, herbal, and nearly funky. It has just a touch of earthy tartness, but by no means is it sour. Medium bodied and a nice thirst quencher.

The aroma is fairly estery with notes of red apples, cider and pear. There is a moderate hop note, mostly grassy and floral. Low background phenolic character that becomes more pronounced as the beer warms. Slight citrus note also present. Pours a cloudy pale orange with a tall, thick, slightly off white head that has really good retention. Medium high lacing with medium small legs. Flavor is more phenolic than the aroma. Sweet grain notes upfront with a bit of cracker. Still has moderate red apple eaters in the flavor. Bitterness is fairly assertive and also welcome some floral hop notes. Finish has phenolic spice including a bit of pepper. Some lingering red apple in finish as well. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation. Astringency is medium low and seems to mostly be due to hop bitterness. Low alcohol warmth. Overall an alright beer, but I feel like the previous years was better. I'm not sure if it's my memory or batch variation but this isn't as good as I remember. Still light and easy drinking though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden yellow capped by a crater rock white head. Nose is filled with dull earth. Taste is muddled by earth, clove, and malt. Body is medium. Finishes dry.

Pours an average clear medium yellow with a frothy head. Aromas of bubblegum (juicyfruit), hay grass and coriander. Flavors of slight apricot, hay, grass, and light hints of coriander. Leaves just a light bitter finish, light sweet, slightly dry. A close to average saison but good and refreshing.

A caramel nut brown with a crisp white head. The beer is complex and deep, a great saison at an affordable price. It's separated from the greats by the finish being a bit unrefined rather than smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Bottle poured a golden color with a big fizzy white head that retained a ring on the glass. Aroma has yeast, sweet hops, and some grains. Mouth feel is light and there is nice texture with steady carbonation. Flavor has the Belgian yeast twist, punchy American hops, some grains, and a light bitterness on the finish. Nice and drinkable.

Bottle. Clear gold with a foamy white head. Very spicy- with coriander flavors dominating. It mellows into a pleasant aftertaste. Saison’s aren’t my favorite style, but this was pretty good.

12oz bottle. Golden pour with a white head into a tulip glass. Wow, this is pretty good, one of the better American Saisons I have tasted in fact. The yeast imparts a nice character to it with hints of pepper and the overall taste was just what I was looking for in the style. I like this one.
