COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ground Break is our new spring seasonal… it’s an Americanized (hoppy) Saison. It’s brewed with generous amounts of Amarillo, Crystal and Glacier hops (none added during the boil by the way- only first wort, whirlpool and dry-hop additions) and flaked rye. It’s fermented with a blend of Dupont and Chico yeasts. Very dry, ample yeast character, and hoppy. We’ve brewed a couple of batches so far, and expect it to start showing up on draft first, then in 6-packs and our variety 12-pack in February. It’ll last until May or so when we start rolling out this year’s version of Partly Sunny, our summer Wit-style beer! This will show up everywhere that our seasonal brews and variety packs are found: NY, PA, CT, MA, RI, NJ and OH.

Pours a clear golden yellow with a smallish white head, good lacing. Aroma is bready, biscuit, yeast, lemon zest, fresh grass. Taste is full of lemon zest and super light grassy hop, rye, yeast. Very refreshing.. Not a ton of flavor.

Aroma of garden herbs, sugar and yeast. Light yellow with fine suspension. Sharp-bitter and cool sweet which makes for an interesting balance, also a touch of farmhouse funk. Very zesty while in the session range of the style. Sort of like the white IPA’s that have been hawked lately.

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks solid; a slightly hazy golden orange with eggshell head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells yeasty with notes of clove and mild hops. Tastes like it smells, but less balanced. Average (at best) on the palate. Too much clove IMO.

Bottle at Union Square Cafe. Light yellowy colour, nice white head. Perfumy hop aroma along with a bit of spice. It is indeed dry, hoppy, just has enough funky yeast. Very summery, less ideal for a cold, rainy night! Enjoyable.

This is a great beer. Its now my favorite saison, although it’s borderline an IPA. The mouth feel is crisp and refreshing. It has a great sessionable flavor, fresh and hoppy but balanced. Great summertime beer.

12 oz draft at Cafe Notte in Pittsburgh. Sweet, creamy and smooth. Lots of fizz on the pour. A nice tolerance for hops and just the right amount of sugar. Generally above the mark for the IPA style.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow gold body under a small fizzy white head. The nose is pretty nice, floral and lightly earthy with some great hoppiness and a light hint of rye. The flavor is just as nice, the hops and rye really combine to put a nice twist on an American Saison. Really long lingering finish of floral hops and light yeastiness. Light bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. A really nice delicate and subtle beer, I could drink this all day long.

Bottle to glass. Hazy yellow body with a thick hearty white head. Nose is a dry bitter farmhouse hay, some sharp lemon. Taste is dry, bitter hay up front with a lemony bitter finish. Not bad.

Draft at Pony Bar with Wally. Pours a light golden body with thick white lacing. Aroma is nice light wheat, pale malt and lemon. Mouthfeel is medium to light with notes of smooth rounded vanilla malt, pale hop, crisp wheat and light yeast. Some lemon as well. Nice clean sessionable saison.
