bottle poured a chestnut brown in color with a thin layer of light tan head. aroma has malt, caramel, some toasted coffee, and some tobacco. lighter mouth feel beer with some stickiness. flavor is toasted malt, chocolate, and has some hops once it warmed up to temperature. enjoyable easy drinking with good flavor. wish this was a little bigger a beer seems a little thin but it makes up for it in good well blended flavor
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Goodgrief (1608) - Middletown, Delaware, USA - JAN 26, 2008
April 2006 - First of the beers my dad grabbed while in Syracuse and hauled back to DE for me to try. This one poured with dark copper color, minimal head and a horrible metallic smelling aroma...so bad I found myself trying not to breathe through my nose as I was drinking. Fortunately, it didn’t taste nearly as bad as it smelled (no metallic flavor at all...odd). A nutty taste hit you right away and finished with a hop bitterness. Very little maltiness (no caramel) going on and a bit thin. No real richness to it.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BBB63 (4939) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - JAN 24, 2008
Bottle from beerbill and served in my Newcastle no-nik pint glass: Caramel brown hue with a mostly lasting frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, walnut, chocolate, aromatic and herbal hops (yep Fuggles), leather and pipe tobacco, and a hint of mineral. The nose is quite good for the genre.
The taste starts sugary and malty sweet with a chocolate covered cashew background. A hint of herbs and flowers upon the dry chalky finish. End with a quick dose of cold pressed coffee. The mouth feel is soft and approachable. All in all, this is better than average for the style, I think the added chocolate malts helps a lot. A nice rounded beer IMO.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mansquito (1607) - washington, Washington DC, USA - JAN 21, 2008
Reddish brown, with tan or beige head (if there is a difference betwixt the two...) Aroma had some nuts in it, but mostly malts. Slightly dry. Slightly nutty. Mostly just the malts though. Maybe a little bit of chocolate... but I am not sure.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 thedm (4116) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - DEC 31, 2007
This draft brew from the Ale House beer bar in Johnson City NY poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized light tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a semi-opaque typically carbonated dark red brown colored body and a good lacing. The nice aroma was brown malt and nutty. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Pours a clear medium deep red brown color with nice amount of froathy tan head. Aroma is pretty weak, slighty sweet. Flavor is a bit bitter chocolate and slight nut - dry with bitter baking chocolate finish. Mouthfeel pretty watery. Overall, so so.

not a good showing by this brewer. Of the four I had at the Split Rock beer fest this was the poorest brew they offered. Weak palate and just very plain.

Blah...this is not very good. Aroma of caramel. malt. Pour was a dark brown with no head. Taste was very thin and watery. A bit of caramel malt with some chocolate, but the carbonation drowns out the weak flavor. Has a wierd gasoline aftertaste.
