3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 rampmaster (643) - Alden, New York, USA - JUN 19, 2010
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The month of March is notched out as a "BEST BEFORE" date and it was sampled in February.
Appearance: It has a hazy chestnut colored body with a light tan head on top. The head is thick and creamy, tall but slow fading to a thin covering that hangs on till the finish and makes for some slick lacing.
Smell: There is a big sweet nose on this one. Sweet caramel and rich bready notes fill the nose and hops add some light spice as well.
Taste/Palate: Up front there is a big sweet caramel and buttery presence with some light mineral and green leafy/herbal hop bitterness moving into the middle. The hop notes struggle to come though but sweet creamy caramel and bready maltiness now with a hint of roasted nuttiness dominates and leads into the finish. I am also getting some dark fruity notes like raison or overripe plum as well. On the palate it has a smooth silky texture with light carbonation and a sturdy medium body.
Notes: There is a lot of sweetness in this one but for me it just stayed on the good side of cloying.

12 oz. bottle. I don’t remember where this came from specifically, but I know it was a bonus in a trade. Sorry to whoever I am not giving credit to. Pours a semi-cloudy brown number with a small tan head. Notes of nuts, brown sugar, chocolate malts, caramel malts, roast, toast, and a bit of earthy coffee. Straightforward brown ale, and it’s nice. Light-medium bodied, with below average carbonation and a nutty mouthfeel. Sessionable and just fine for a brown ale.

Sampled at Craft beer store A bronze pour with aromas of nut, earth and caramel malt. Thin in taste and dry earthy finish. It was ok.

Medium brown in color, but with a touch of dark red. The head goes away quickly. Can’t really see through it, formidable.
Malty smell. Burnt, roasted. Very much a brown ale. Even a hint of coffee bean. Dark and actually kind of complex. Almost smells like a mild porter.
Nutty brown malt flavor, with a hint of toffee and caramel. Slightly sweet, but balanced by the roasted malt. Coffee flavor comes out as it warms up. Nice, bittersweet aftertaste.
Medium thickness, quite dry for a brown. Nice feel; not too thick or bitter. Smooth and even a bit buttery. A solid brown, strong but not too much. Healthy, "meaty" ... but drinkable.
