Commercial Description:
A Robust American Ale brewed with four different rye malts, fresh centennial and crystal hops and our proprietary ale yeast. It is partly fermented in Tennessee rye whiskey barrels, then carefully blended. Enjoy the gorgeous ruby color, strong aromas of vanilla and black cherry, earthy flavors of nuts and oak and the warm, spicy finish.

Bottle #1697, released June 07. Pours Deep ruby brown with a very thin head. Nice fruity aroma with cherry, vanilla, chocolate and chestnut. Medium full body, very smooth. Flavor starts sweet with plum and caramel, before moving to a more toasty area with oak, earth, chocolate and chestnuts. Finishes with a very nice combination of spicy hops and oak. Very nice.

Pours a dark red with a thin head. The nose was sweet, spicy rye, warm alcohol, some bourbon, a little subdued. Bourbon flavor, warm, spicy rye, lightly waxy hop flavor. The mouthfeel was thin with no carbonation. Finished warm.

Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to Ryan for sharing! Another impressive beer from Ithaca, a brewery that’s really rising in my estimation. It’s certainly a strong barleywine at its base, a lovely brown/amber pour, a strong malty aroma, with some hops and heat initially coming on strong - and some dark fruits and even a hint of port emerging late. But yes, the rye malts do come through and do give this beer some added complexity and distinctiveness. A nice one.
