This old ale is like the symphony of hops. The bitterest ale in the world have once voyaged from England to India.

Bottled, thanks IslandHaole! Cloudy amber. Flowery fruit aroma. Yeasty with notes of lemony hops and hay. Softly malty with lingering, resiny very bitter finish.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2006 Densely sedimented orange-tan colour. Rich piney (think Deus) aroma with peach, grapefruit. Huge bitterness, but fresh rather than tongue-scraping. No resin, no crystal malt..cross-country skiing on a deserted mountain track. Pine needles, wood and grapefruit flavours. Full body and lots of sweet malts underpinning the hops. Similar to Hitachino’s Japanese Classic, I could drink this for days.

Bottle at Golden Garden, Hiroshima. CLoudy amber - white head. High hoppy, fruity, grape fruits, melon, citric, flowery, resin, caramel, nice malty, nice high hoppy.

Cask - Sweetness and grains. Clearish gold with a tho white head. Nondescript bitterness and really dry. The beer takes subtle to a whole new level, almost tasteless. Some resin and citrus, but the bitterness and dryness overwhelm.

My Bottom Line:
Orangey fruitiness, sturdy earth, resinous conifers, caramel apples stuff the pillowy mouthfeel of this freshest of IPAs. Such a complex and seamless stream of smooth flavors cannot help but make you long for more.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A compact head of foam lingers atop the cloudy orange-red.
-The finish just goes on and on.
-Natural carbonation and bulky malts conjure up a seductive mouthfeel.
-Balanced, flavorful, very drinkable, and somewhat nourishing too; a very good IPA.

On cask at Popeye’s.

Bottle. Medium copper color with a very low, lacy head. Rather rich amber malt aroma, caramel, some hops but not a lot. Rich malt flavor, caramel, chocolate. Good hops bitterness but without a lot of hop aroma. Some though, with some fruit and a bit of citrus. Very rich strong, malt, though, right through to the end. Earthy, bitter, but malty finish. Very complex, though not as fruity and hoppy as I would ask for. Well done, though. Great Malt.

Very refreshing and a bit light aroma with fresh, exotic fruits. Hoppy flavour with bready malt. Sticky finish. An ok IPA, but too malty.

Small offwhite creamy head. Hazy amber body. Very faint hop aroma. Soft sweetish bitter citrus and flower taste. Honey and strawberry notes. Dry citric hop aftertaste. Nice understated IPA. (0.25l on tap at Popeye.)

330ml Bottle "...is like the symphony of hops!" I love that. Nice auburn color with just the right level of carbonation for an IPA; on the lighter side. A bit of sticky head and average lacing. The nose is piney with some subtle earthy citrus, a nice sweet caramel note along with it. The flavor is bright with hops but not resinous or too bitter. The right level of pine, sweetness and gentle bitterness. Perhaps a low alpha acid variety, who knows. The secrets are hidden in the kanji. The finish is balanced with some light drying astringency that rings like a spice on the tail. Very unique IPA, unlike most I’ve tried. Thanks to IslandHaole for sending this gem to me.

On tap at London Pub Towser, Nagoya. Hazy amber with a small head. Fruity aroma, hints of earth that is more evident in the mouth. Quite bitter, some citrus. Quite nice.
