Pitch black with no head. Smells toasty and kind of oily with coffee notes. Taste is salty amidst an oily palate. Chocolate flavours abound. Pleasantly surprised by this and thoroughly enjoyed.

Black opaque color, firm beige head. Light toasted, berryish aroma. Medium-bodied. Caramel, chocolate, some coffee. Good malty although not very roasted or hoppy stout.

Tiny beady brown bubbly head. Aroma is dark chocolate, saltwater, and alcohol. Creamy mouthfeel, moderately biting carbonation. Flavors are mostly chocolate with some roasted malt and coffee bean aspect. Body is full throughout, and rather light for a stout. Very refreshing palate. Initial maltiness and chocolate lead to a more bitter roast middle and it finishes bitter and numbing on the tongue. Bitterness is pronounced, alc flavor is low even cold and at 7abv. Overall easy drinking and pleasant bitter stout.

Draught at Craft Beer Kyoto 2014. Pitch black, dark tan cream head. Slick yet rich mouthfeel. Lots of umami all present and correct. Oyster flavour not really noticeable. Dark chocolate, soy sauce, hint of spice. Rich and delicious. Best of the day so far.

Black with a brown head - Roasted malt aroa - Good roasted malt body With some bitterness from the roasted malt - Roasted malt finish that have some bitterness that lasts for some time - This was quite good

Cool find #2 at this izakaya spot in downtown Phoenix. Pours black with nose of chocolate and some salty sweetness tastes of chocolate, burnt malt, molasses, light brine, and sugary finish. Could use touch more carbonation but overall nice

On tap at the Iwate-ken event near Umeda Station. It pours a dark brown with ruby accents almost black, tan head with tinges of burnt orange-nice, 4. Nose of umami & coffee. Light body with the same kind of zesty carbonation, decent flavor, burnt/roast notes, coffee. Tasty enough 3.4 surprised to hear it is 7% also made with real oysters, as it warms up it really comes together. Smoother body, a touch of salty brineyness counterbalanced by coffee & creamy chocolate, earthy, event hints of smoke. 3.6-3.7

Cask - Roast malt, milk chocolate and light coffee. Jet black with a light brown small head. Chocolate milk to start, but as I continue many other flavours develop. A saltiness, almost fishy. Did they add oysters or the liquor? This beer starts great and keeps getting weirder as I drink it. Give it a try.

Chocolate, soy, seaweed, salt....smells like the sea
Deep black, think ring like tan head
Chocolate, umami, salt, and a fishy ending
Creamy, smooth, and medium bodied.
Strangest beer, by far Iíve had in Japan...Iím not sure how much I like this...but I have to give it itís due for its uniqueness.

330 ml bottle bought at CitySuper in IFC, Central.
Looks: Translucent deep cola blackish brown colour with lots of dirt-like yeast sediments; One finger head and beige foam which last for 90 seconds; Small sticky lacing and very slight carbonation.
Aroma: Fragrant and very aromatic nice roasted coffee beans, closely followed by roasted malt, chocolate, cream, sugar, liquorices, and potent grass.
Taste: Light sweet dark roasted malt, closely followed by a dash of savoury sea salt, coffee, cream, chocolate, oyster flesh, oyster shell, strong nuts, ashtray, liquorices, light lime and strong grass.
Body: Mid to light, quite slick and creamy palate.
Mouth Feel: very layered and complexed - first off itís a strong tasting, long lasting roasted malt in a smoky, very low sweetness background, followed by a quick and thick dash of sea salt, pretty breezy and nice, then a bliss of coffee, cream and chocolate. Now comes the most interesting parts: Yes, the elusive oyster meat and oyster shell, which is fleshy, salty and very exciting to taste (yes, I am a oyster lover so that helps :) This all happens in each single sip. Excellent!
Hoppiness: Very prominent liquorices and I can smell it up front, incredible! Not to mention very grassy hops in nose and taste. Surprisingly, itís not as astringent or bitter as the nose and taste suggest. Finishing is comfy, meaty, and nicely moderate and lasting bitterness to close out.
After Taste: Fairly dry, slightly salty and quite creamy to mouth.
Comments: For me, tasting a good beer is like having a nice meal within a brew. If having a nice IIPA is like having a nice fresh pomelo, than this brew is like having a feast of freshly opened oysters while putting your feet up at your favourite sea shore. Am I exaggerating? You have to taste it to believe it. A fantastic brew!
