Egon (301), Gothenburg, Sweden Feb 16, 2008 Bottle. Black with a large head. smoky malt. Almost too much of the soot. Quite thin for a porter.
Todeon (166), Höllviken, Sweden Jun 27, 2008 Bottle. Really dark brown color with a nice head. Roasted taste with plenty of chocolat and coffee with a smooth and thin mouthfeel. brontebeach (14), England May 6, 2008 Pours a dark body with a light brown carbonated head. Roasted aroma and taste, balanced but a little thin and carbonated. faroeviking (4124), Faroese Beer Republic union of, Denmark Apr 28, 2008 Bottle. Trade from Maria. Pours a black colour with a nice creamy light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, hops and some chocolate. Very good mouthfeel. the flavour has a good roasted maltiness with roasted caramel, nice quite bitter hoppiness, some dark fruits and coffee. Roasty bitter well lasting finish. Nice powerful porter @ only 4,8%. Boutip (1753), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Apr 4, 2008 Bottle courtesy of thewolf: Poured a light black color porter with a big light brown foamy head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma of green hops is surprising and doesn’t mix that well with the roasted malt notes. Taste is a weird mix between green bitter hops with some corn malt easily noticeable and some roasted bitter malt. The mix between all those different tastes didn’t really do it for me. Average body with good carbonation. Definitely not what I was expecting and not sure why this is rated so high. BBB63 (3767), La Porte, Indiana, USA Feb 22, 2008 Bottle from Brent and served in my NB worthy glass: Deep brown hue that is nearly opaque topped by a frothy tan head that left very good lace upon the glass. The aroma has notes of charred and toasty malt, hint of oat, walnut, star anise, herbal hops, some acidic fruit and lactic sourness. The taste is ashy and toasty up front supported by a mild plum and grapefruit tones. There is some nutty notes and a hint of bakers chocolate as well. Lactic sourness ad strange hop bitterness upon the finish. The mouth feel is sprite but far too ashy and astringent. Sort of a letdown honestly, short flavor profile and not all that refreshing. This beer is living off the high ratings of 2003 and prior.
