islay (401), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 27, 2008 Small sample at OSLO and Guerde’s tasting on Friday, 5-23-08. Thanks to Skyview for sharing this mead. Pours a clear peach to soft, light copper color. Floral aroma of vinegar, white wine, and salt. Sweet flavor features raspberry. Flavors are lighter than those of J. Bird Classic Mead, which I sampled immediately before. Medium body.
JK (2392), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA May 31, 2008 Light brown color. Aroma with flowers and sugar. Flavor has more flowers and light spice. More honey, and very sweet. Less carbonation than the classic mead, but still surprisingly good for something from a plastic bottle. OSLO (606), Minnesota, USA May 29, 2008 [Bottle, thanks Skyview] Pours peach color. Same odd leather aroma as in the classic, but more subdued with this one. There is otherwise just a lot of honey, a little apple and some other light fruitiness. Taste is pretty simple with it being mostly sweet and big on honey. Medium mouthfeel with a long finish. The aroma and flavors were more subdued with this mead, but I actually slightly preferred it to the classic. badgerben (3040), Blaine, Minnesota, USA May 26, 2008 OSLO and Guerde’s Memorial Weekend Tasting, 5/23/08. Couresty of Skyview. Light brown, almost pink color. Very floral aroma with a hint of strawberry. That turns into a litlte more than a hint in the flavor. Thick honey. Moderately sweet. Still floral. Didn’t come together as well as their Classic mead, but still very enjoyable. Guerde (462), Welcome, Minnesota, USA May 23, 2008 (plastic bottle thanks Skyview!) Pours light pink with some legs as it states. Aroma is some sweet honey, plastic, and leather. Taste is pretty sweet, with some slight earthiness on the finish. Not bad, a little better than the classic.
