rkuhnel (951), Eureka, California, USA May 7, 2008 From Corti Bros in Sacramento this 12 oz bottle poured a gold color with a small white head. Nose of a wet blanket and grassy hops Very light mouthfeel and flavor is ligh caramel malts and odd tasting hops. No much finish. Not much of a beer for that matter.
DYCSoccer17 (1987), Davis, California, USA Sep 8, 2007 12 ounce bottle purchased from Corti Brother in Sacramento, CA. Aroma has some spicy, peppery, herbal hoppiness present. Lightly grassy and a bit of biscuit. Moderately hazy blonde body with a large, frothy, white head that leaves attractive lacing behind. Lightly sweet, lemony malts to start. Some graininess and a bit of biscuit flavor also makes an appearance. Finishes with a light, herbal, lightly bitter hopped finish. Pretty light, and quite drinkable. A baby pils. bhensonb (2687), Woodland, California, USA Sep 8, 2007 12 oz brown bottle from Corti Brothers. What a coincidence! It smells a bit of wet dog! Certainly the expected grain and hop are absent. The color is brassy gold, and the white head promptly ringed. Medium bodied, sharp carbonation. The instant start is somewhat biscuit, moves on to a hint of roast malt. The bitter is reminiscent of one of the older, better, American lagers that had decent amounts of hop. Olympia is the only one I can remember, and this is probably more pleasing. The finish is crisp, clean, not un-dry, and has an amount of hop for the mouth that is so much more than macro lagers from America. Maybe this is a memorial to the days before our lagers were destroyed by the advent of cheap shipping. (Got nothing against cheap shipping; helps get the craft brews closer to me). Best American pale lager I’ve had recently. Davecooks (1126), Bay Area, California, USA Dec 15, 2006 Bottle. Clear yellow with a white head. Toasted malt and sulfur aroma. More toasted malt in the flavor with a clean dry finish. Just OK. stoutlover72 (1313), NorCal, California, USA Dec 15, 2006 Take the ability to quaff large amounts of this, and it’s a pretty good beer. While there isn’t anything horribly wrong with the beer, there’s nothing really outstanding either. I suppose that’s a good thing, no? A malty aroma with hints of corn. Typical golden lager color with a decent head. Not much in terms of flavor with a clean finish. Drinkable, yes definitely. Outstanding, no.
