a Blueberry Baltic Porter! Oooooooh. What shall we name this beer? Well, it’s a beer so nice, we named it twice. The first inspiration for this beer is a certain black lab named Rainy. Though Rainy is now playing fetch in heaven (where all dogs go), she clearly would have been a regular at Jackalope. So for Rainy, this brew is named “Rainy Day Blues.” However, another creature was responsible for bringing this beer to life, and he must not be ignored. So “Rainy Day Blues” will also be referred to as “Tonka.” Legend has it that the Tonka beast would travel from town to town, bringing beer to people in need, often carrying 6 kegs with a single hand, and then would return to its den at night to concoct new brews, such as this very Baltic porter.

Winter Warmer. Pours dark brown/black with a dissipating light brown head. Aroma of ale esters and mild roast. Flavor of dark roasted malts, spicy hops, smoke, and a hint of blueberry. Astrigency and off flavors on the finish. Great idea, but the execution needs some work

This is unexpectedly smoky, malty, meaty, and topped with a very slight cool berry taste. Lots of hints of burnt toast and barbecue. If this was presented as a blueberry smoked porter, i would have been more satisfied, though still not too impressed. sorry. On tap at the 12 South Winter Warmer beer festival in Nashville, TN.
