Commercial Description:
This unique beer is a plum infused Wee Heavy that experienced a secondary fermentation from native Athens’ micoflora off of the skins of the local plums. This all happened with in an American Oak barrel over the course of three months. A 10.5% one of a kind brew that embodies tart/sweet plumbs, peat-smoked Scottish ale, and second-generation bourbon barrel flavors (soft bourbon notes and some very refined oak character). It was exciting to see this beer actually make it on tap. I thought it was a crazy idea. Once that barrel was opened up, a delightful surprise sprang forth.

Thanks goryshkewych for the trade. Pours deep, dark red-brown with an off-white head. Nose is sweet malt, vanilla, maple, dark fruit, sweet, boozy bourbon, and some dark fruitiness. Flavor is similar with lots of sweet, seductive bourbon, vanilla, malt, and fruit. Another excellent beer from Jackie O’s.

Growler pour courtesy of markwise, thanks again Mark. Pours strikingly clear amber with copper edges and thin nearly white head. The aroma has lots of sweet bourbon and dry oak along with hints of plum fruit meat. The taste is smooth and dry with boozy bourbon, vanilla, oak and some malts. It seems to end with a mild level of vanilla, booze, dryness, oak and more dryness.

Swingtop hand bottle. Initially, there are some light acetic aromas to the beer. That fades and then the plum characteristics come out. A little bit of wood. Some vanilla. Lighter roasty malt notes. A some light cheesy funk as the beer nears room temperature. Pours a dark, muddy brown with some glints of ruby when held up to the light. Flavor is interesting, but kind of all over the place. First off there’s the base beer... a little bit of smoke, peat and toasty dark malt. Then there is the slight tart, frutiness of the plums and finally some vanilla and tannic dryness from the barrels. The wood presence increases as the beer warms. Very drying on the back and sides of the tongue. Interesting, but not integrated all that well. Medium bodied and slightly greasy. Average carbonation leading to a drying and slightly watery finish. Thanks Jonathan!

growler courtesy of markwise. Pours brown, nice light mocha head. Aroma is full of bourbon, dark fruits, and malts. Flavor, bourbon is just a little too forward to fully enjoy the full flavor of the Scottish ale. Addition of the plum adds a thin fruit tartness with hints of chocolate. Tasty beer!

Growler courtesy of markwise. Nose is big bourbon, barrel, loads of wood, mild smoke, some sweet malt, earth, vanilla. Flavor is smokey, fruits, mild tartness, tons of oak, mild bourbon and malt. A little too much wood.

Draft @ brewpub. Brown pour. Whiskey and a slightly tart aroma. I felt like this was pretty similar to the thorogood until I tasted how smooth this finished, and the flavor has the plum infusion, oak, some roasted chocolate and vanilla flavors. Well done.

Growler from the very generous goryshkewych, as always, a big thanks to George. Rating #10, its official. Pours dark brown, sort of cola like I guess, with a very thin off-white head. Aroma was a little sweet, slightly tart, woody some light roast and a little caramel. Very smooth, more wood and sweetness, hint of bourbon and maybe a slight plum note in the finish, quite good actually, really didn’t know what to expect, very nice. (1021)

Growler, courtesy beerlando. The growler had a leaked a bit, but I feel like it held up just fine. Pours a dark and hazy brown color with a reddish hue topped by a small, tan colored head that settles quickly. The aroma shows sweet caramel, some dark fruit, burnt oak, and hints of plums. There is also overtones of bourbon and vanilla bean. The flavor starts with sweet chocolate and caramel malts up front followed by bourbon and oak laden vanilla. The plums and dark fruit seem to come through more as it warms up a bit. Medium bodied and pretty smooth with subtle carbonation that leads to a warm bourbon on the finish. The alcohol is well hidden as it never gets that boozy feel to it. Really good flavor and interesting stuff. I’m anxious to try more of the Jackie O’s stuff.
