3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Tony/Jim BA Birthday Extravaganza 2013 (Western Springs, IL). Pours a nice well hazed brownish copper hue, darker hazy middle with a touch of glow on the edges. Frothy tannish head dies to a nice layer, thicker ring lacing atop. Aromas are tart cherry, a touch balsamic and mellow oak. Touches of brown malt, biscuit, and mellow red wine. Some vanilla, more tart cherry, touch of lactic acidity. Initial is tart, cherry and red wine mix well, firmer tannins, dark fruit and balsamic vinegar, touches of sourness and a bit acedic. Some touches of toasty body, vanilla and tartness. Middle is more acedic. Some firmer red wine, balsamic, gentle deadened malts. Oak, some nice stick around froma. Firm red wine barrel as we round the corner, tannic and tart. Finish is dry, vinous, cherries and red wine. Solid sour, a bit thin and firmer dominated by the barrels as we take off. Still, I enjoyed this a fair amount.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle from the brewpub. 2013 vintage. Bottle 313/400. Pours a clear mahogany color - appropriate - with a beige head. Notes of tart cherries and raspberries, sour mash, candy (Warheads), root beer, and oak. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a tart, fruity mouthfeel. I normally don’t go for sour browns but this one is very, very good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap sample. Poured a clear reddish brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good to excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy sour & tart fruit aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Been looking forward to this one. Got to try it at the 4th Anniversary some years back, but had a head cold at the time. Sample at the Jackie O’s pub (Brewery side) on 8/16/13. Clear brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of brett, malt, cherry and raspberry. Sweet cherry and malt flavor up front, then quickly turning to a funky and sour raspberry finish. A very unique beer because the cherries and raspberries hit the palate in completely different ways, giving two separate fruit accents vs. the proverbial fruit cocktail. Awesome stuff.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Taster on tap at the brewpub. Mostly clear, dark brown color. Minimal khaki head. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp carbonation. Very nice bright taste. Nice big raspberry, spicy woody aroma. Awesome, big woody sour, lightly spicy. Delicious, big tart almost puckering deep woodiness and dark fruit.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured on draft at Jackie-Os. Pours a darker copper to brown with not much head. The aroma is acidic and has some berry influence. Tastes sour and sweet. Dry finish. Good, but one dimensional.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft @ Jackie O’s (notes from 12/2009). Pours, well, mahogany in color with a small beige head. The aroma had some caramel at its base, but was tart fruits favoring black cherry and berries and mildly acidic. The flavor emphasized tart black cherries, berries and woody notes. Some earthy hints and the sweet caramel malt remain in the background.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear brown with no head. Sour dark fruit, wet wood, aspirin aromas. Still, no carbonation. Mild to medium sour throughout with tart berry fruit skin, earthy wet wood, neutral malts. Decent.
