On tap into a snifter at barrel aged fest...A beer actually aged on bacon, how could I resist? Aroma is a smokey oatmel stout, sweet oatmeal notes come through a lot. I was hoping for a big burst of bacon and sadly only got a little on the back...Taste has some light smoke on the front, but sadly no bacon at all. I would love to know how this bacon aged and what result Brad was going for here because the bacon just does not come through! I want it to sadly some from that standpoint its a disappointment. Without the bacon expectations this is a pretty good balanced oatmeal with a little smoke, worth trying but get the bacon fixed and this could be special.

Draft. Pours black. Nose and taste of oatmeal, rye, smoke, chocolate malt and light pine.

Poured from a freshly filled Growler. Appearance is a dark brown with a nice sized tan head that dissipates relatively quickly. Aroma is smoky, bitter, dark chocolate, and some coffee. Taste is char, Bacon, and dark chocolate. Aftertaste is char. This is a very solid beer. Did not expect it to work, but it does pretty well.

Sample from growler shared by Sliffy @ RBSG. Pours a dark brown with a thin beige film. The aroma is smoked meaty goodness, dark malts, roast, and a touch of chocolate. The flavor is dark malts, smoke, meaty, chocolate, and thin coffee. The flavors are nice, but this could use some beefing up in the body as it is a little thin.

Shared by the Indy/C’bus posse at BASC. Bacon beers continue to surface - get this trend going now! No basis for comparison with the base beer, but it strikes me that this style - with its dry, faintly chalky mouthfeel and substantial roasts - is perfect for porkification. Nice nose of rye, char, dry chocolate, and pig pickin’. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy, with a slight dose of heat as with campfire, and a dry, slightly spicy finish (rye and pig). Lots of hefty chocolate malts in the middle, with a touch of lactic thickness too. Good stuff!

Backlogged rating from the RBSG 2010, another CBus offering, sliffy was pouring this so I will thank him: Mostly opaque with just a bit of an amber highlight topped by a creamy beige head and good lace. The aroma has notes of smoked meat, bacon, rye, tar, pipe tobacco, some star anise, lightly resiny and piney, and a bit ashy and burnt coffee. The taste has a big aggressive rye and PNW hop bite followed by ashy charred malts. Very meaty and earthy profile with some supporting chocolate, coffee, hop spice and sea salt. The mouth feel is a bit thin, oily and ashy. This is very nice dispite the weak mouth feel. I would try it again no problem.

Sample at Jackie O’s Barrel aged Beer Fest 2010. Pours dark brown/black with medium brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, and some smokiness/"meatiness" from the bacon. Flavor of coffee, bitter chocolate, slight smokiness from the bacon, and some slight spiciness/dryness from the rye.

On tap at the brewery during the Barrel Aged Beer Festival, thanks Kan! Poured black with a dark brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was full of roasted malts with some dark grains and a slight smokey note. Flavor was also full of roasted malts with a smoke backing and a bit of coffee.

On tap at Jackie O’s. Pours black with thin tan head. Aroma was coffee, roast, smoke, and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor follows the nose and has a dark caramel note with a more smoky flavor that clearly comes from the bacon. Interesting.

On draft @ Bodega. Black pour with a tan head. Aroma of bitter roast, chocolate, light coffee, light smoke. Flavors of chocolate candy(ala tootsie roll), roast, earthy bitterness and some smokey notes as well. Medium-thick body, bitter and mildly sweet with a bitter/astringent finish. A kind of interesting experiment, though not sure it worked out all that well. There’s solid bitter notes, solid roasted notes... smoke/meat is present as well as some chocolate , but both are present in an odd manner, almost forced and don’t meld so well with the other components. Overall, kind of neat but also a bit flawed
