Handbottle… Cloudy brown ale with no head. The aroma supplies caramel and fudge with a nice brandy component. Medium to full-bodied with tickling carbonation. The malty flavor presents big-time brandy, caramel, brown sugar and dark fruits. Finishes tangy, brandy-heavy and very soul-warming. Sample courtesy of darkguardian!

Sample at Jackie O’s as part of Ohio Brew Week. Pours cola-colored with a thin off-white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon and roasted malt. Rich and smooth body with flavors of brandy-infused chocolate, caramel and malt. The finish is malty with a roasted nut and dark fruit aftertaste. Above average overall.

Another Jackie O’s beauty courtesy of markwise. Pours mahogany with thin mocha head. The aroma offers up toffee, burnt toffee, brown sugar and rum like candy booze. The taste has some toffee notes followed by caramel malts, brown sugar and some mildly tart notes. To midway and into the finish mild roasted malts rise to the surface amid modest levels of sweet rum. Nice amount of the base beer coming through the barrel notes.

Hazy brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of brandy, caramel, vanilla, sherry, dark fruits, wood, nuts, and light alcohol. Taste of oxidation, brandy, dark fruits, caramel, wood, vanilla, and light alcohol in the finish.

On tap at Jackie O’s last weekend. Pours a moderately-dark brown color with a good light tan head. Head is short-lasting, but leaves a touch of lacing and ends in a thin collar. The nose is really nice. From the start, there are notes of brandy and oak, which play really nicely along with the sweet malt. Along with there is some caramel and brown sugar. Good malt character to back up the strong barrel flavors. Brandy notes are nice and mellow without being harsh, even though they’re fairly strong. The brandy and oak pick up very well in the flavor with only a smidgeon of booze. Nice and full body with good carbonation. Another big hit. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 05-05-2011

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2011 Sample at the Public House bottle release on 6/25/11. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Caramel and buttered toffee nose with malt and booze. Buttered toffee flavor with roast, a bit of black cherry and a boozy finish.

Brandy barrel brown ale. Pours dark mahogany color with a thin tan head. Nose is slight coffee, toasted malts, booze, and some subtle brandy. The brandy neither batters you, nor pushes, it introduces itself like an old friend you have been longing to see. Flavor lets out some malts and some earth with coffee, but the brandy is the star here. Very balanced, not forward or fancy, simply conversational. This one makes the drinker ponder and search, and rewards the time spent pondering and searching. Enjoyable, in fact the only lament is the empty bottle.

draft at the release... this was the star of the day, perfectly balance barrel aged beer that shows off the spirit but still has the base come through... excellent

Jackie o’s bolero brown. On tap at jo’s... Pours a murky cola porterish hue with lighter hues at the edges and tipped with a cream light beige head... Sweet brandy nose, nutty with a little metallic in the background... Flavors are a continuation of the same with a smooth creaminess, nice flavors all around contributed to by the brandy barrel, a little boozy, with more of that fruity slighty edgy metallic note. Lovethe body and it’s lushness and it finishes on somewha of a boozy note. 8/4/7/3/14

This poured a cloudy darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma was lots and lots of brandy, lots of buttery notes, and light toasted caramel malt. Flavor was almost all brandy, very little underlying brown ale there. Once again I keep picking up butter that I believe is from the brandy that I also got from the brandy DA
