3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewpub. Thin khaki head, mostly clear dark brown color. Some lace. Prominent bourbon barrel nose, with a little alcohol warmth. Woody, spice aroma. Light, crisp carbonation, good dry texture. Light smokey sweet taste.. It’s an interesting, complex aroma. Some sweet boozy caramel malts. Some nice funky belgian yeast qualities in there, and spices. Good woody aftertaste. Interesting ale to sip.

22 oz. bottle from alexsdad06- thanks again, Brad! 2012 release, bottle 9/192. Pours a cloudy amber color with a beige head. Bourbon barrel notes lead the way here, with vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar on top of some Belgian dried and dark fruit character. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, malty mouthfeel. Very good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks, Chris! Served in Jackie O’s glassware. Nose is bourbon heavy with nice dark fruits, sugary malt, caramel, and vanilla in the background. Very pungent barrel character, though quite smooth. Medium-full body.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber to oversized snifter (thanks alexsdad06). Looks good; a semi-opaque amberish-brown with off-white lacing. Smells solid; sweet and boozy with some cherry notes. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Great beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22pz bottle courtesy of my friend in Ohio. Cheers! Pours a deep red brown with an off-white head. Nose is brown sugar, boozy and some big citrus hops outside of the vanilla and booze in the barrel. Flavor is big caramel and brown sugar with citrus hops, some boozy burn, and some oaky vanilla. Finish is oaky vanilla, boozy hops, and some burn. Interesting idea.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Cloudy brown ale with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Good retention. The nose is a luxuriant swirl of bourbon, brown sugar, toffee and mocha. Full-bodied and chewy with soft carbonation. The flavor furnishes tons of bourbon intermingled with sweet caramel and brown sugar. The finish is all about the bourbon. I do love bourbon. Thanks goes out to darkguardian for sharing this world class rarity!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Jackie O-s. Pours a dark mahogany color with a fine creamy beige film. The aroma is heavy on the bourbon side with sweet caramel, black cherry, oak with a slight spicy note. The flavor has sweet caramel and toffee, bourbon, vanilla, light cherry notes and oak. Medium plus bodied and was very enjoyable as a sipper. This worked well with the more subdued atmosphere void of the bottle sharing craziness that used to go on.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle. Much thanks to Josh for passing the bottle along... Deeper and dark mahogany opaque hue and topped with a creamy yet thin beige head that quickly reduces down to a thin film... Aroma of sweetened barrel, buttery cognac, with deeper toffee and caramel... Flavors are creamy sweet and consistent to the aroma. Sweetened toffee and cotton candy fluffy profile with a light bitterness on the backend that gets a touch distracting late. Boozy and warm.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2012 On tap from pub side. Pours a dark brown black with medium tan head. Aroma is notes of bourbon and rich malt and a little bit of oak and vanilla. mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with medium to low carbonation. Flavor is rich roasted malts with alcohol warmth and bourbon oak and a little bit of spice which may be Belgian yeast interesting barley wine base still shows through the bourbon. Overall I love this beer this is everything I look for in a beer big roasty malt with bourbon and oak this is a big drinkable beer. Great beer to put in bourbon barrel.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Approximately 4 ounce sample at the Jackie O’s Public House in Athens, Ohio. The pour is a deep hazed brown copper with an off white head. The aroma is bourbon right off, maybe some malty sweet behind that, but mostly its about the booze. The taste is more or less a shot of bourbon, there is a hint of caramel nut malt under that, but really this is about the whisky. The palate is medium bodied, low carbonation, oily mouth feel, and big alcohol burn. Unpopular opinion alert - I love beer, I love bourbon, I do not love overly bourbon beers. Still, this was well executed, just not my thing.

Recieved in a 4 oz. taster glass. This is a bourbon barrel aged Belgian barleywine (for which there isn’t a category, so BSDA it is). This was about the time I got sick of writing reviews, so this one isn’t going to be my best.
3.5 A: Hazed medium brown color. Came without a head.
4.5 S: Big leathery bourbon. Caramel, toffee, and peppery spice. Powerful, yet balanced.
4.0 T: Same as nose with a mild tannic astringency.
4.0 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Good creaminess.
4.0 D: Tasty brew.
