3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Backlogged rating from RBSG 2010, brought by the CBus crew methinks, perhaps the artist formerly known as moejack? Anyways, thanks to whomever: Completely opaque topped by a creamy tan head, very good lace. The aroma has big notes of chocolate and vanilla BABY! There is also some cherry, toffee, coffee, toast, charred oak, herbs, and bourbon alcohol esters and vapours. The taste has initial big sweetness of chocolate covered espresso beans, vanilla beans, earthy tobacco, tannic oak, molasses and burnt sugar. Some light and fleeting herbal and hop spice but brushed aside by the chocolate overtones. The mouth fee is a tad chewy, oily and lush. For a barrel aged stout the body is actually quite nice (methinks oatmeal but I did not find any on the nose nor flavor). The alcohol is less apparent on the palate than the nose. Overall, a nice brew but the vanilla like tone of the bourbon barrel added to the chocolate did make this a tad sweet, but is was not cloying thankfully.

Bottle 44/216, thanks StFan. The pour is dark and has a nice dark brown head. The aroma does have some sense of infection. A hint of bourbon. I detect some sense of infection in the taste, but I have had worse. It does have a faint taste of bourbon. Not really any chocolate.

It is a good precaution for those subject to the disease, a nightmare, to sleep with someone to rouse them, on feeling their convulsive motions; for really they not unfrequently end in death. On awakening, a glass of cordial may be given, but in full stomachs, a vomit is better.

Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Softish palate, semi dry. Nice balance of dark chocolate and very tangy, almost sour, bourbon. A little wood. Semi dry finish. Mild minerals. Quite a simple beer but nicely joined up and effortlessly drinkable.

22oz bottle with huge thanks to goryshkewych for this awesome extra. thanks, George! pours a silky, oily black capped by a dark tan head that leaves thin, bubbly rings of lace. aroma is damn nice with heavy dark chocolate, woody bourbon, caramel, and toasted coconut backed by notes of dried plums, raisins, and red wine. flavor is great with slightly vinous dark fruit notes of black cherry, plum, and raisin up front backed by bitter dark chocolate, roast, and caramel with a hefty dose of charred barrel, slightly tart bourbon, and a touch of vanilla on the finish. palate is medium bodied with crisp carbonation and a lingering, dry, woody finish. overall, a damn good barrel aged stout but i can’t help but think the dark fruit notes and high carbonation are an early warning sign of infection. i still dug it though.

22 oz. bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks a bunch, Dan! 2011 vintage, bottle 76/216. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a small tan ring for a head. The aroma has a weird plum note on top of chocolate, vanilla, coconut and toast- but it somehow works and doesn’t ruin it. The flavor has a hint of that as well, but not as much because there’s a ton of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and cream. Medium-bodied, with mild carbonation and a creamy, sweet mouthfeel. This would really be something if it had some roast or toast to it.

Draft @ Jackie O’s (from notes). Pours dark brown with a small beige head. The aroma was roasted, bourbon, semi-sweet chocolate with some wood and hints of alcohol. The flavor was more bourbon, semi-sweet chocolate, roast, vanilla and wood. This doesn’t have the same body as the other Jackie O’s stouts.

In short: A syrupy, boozy, very bourbonny and not so chocolaty stout. Acceptable sipper at best
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed approximately 10 months after the beer release. Bottle 77 of 216 sent to me by alexsdad06, thanks a lot Brad
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is quite boozy, obvious bourbon barrels, very light notes of chocolate. Taste is oily black cake, a lot of bourbon barrels, sticky tar, lots of vanilla extract, coconuts, booze, sensation of vinous red-wine barrels, rubber, chocolate muffin. Obviously very sweet. Soft carbonation. Not very chocolaty for a beer with Chocolate in the name. Body feels thinner than it should be, like watery slime. There is also an overall unwanted acrid character to this beer. Overall, this is not a bad beer, I drank the full bomber, but the current 4.01 average rating is a joke. A decent beer but nothing screams "Overrated" like a big boozy Jackie-Os rare beer and nothing screams "Pervert!!!" like Jackie from across the street when she sees me in her bedroom window.

Bottle. Beautiful opaque black with a nice brown ring. Aroma: Straightforward bourbony nose, oak and chocolate. Taste: Damn, infected. Very sour and overly oaky. Some subtle chocolate in the finish. Thin and dry palate. Still drinkable like a sour stout, but not very good.
