Pours dark murky brown at the end of the bottle with a nice sandy head. Aroma brings light caramel and toffee with smokey barbecue notes so nice. The god or is big not resiny sweet so glanced with spicey smooth barrel from the two blended bourbon aging brews. The flavor brings rich flavors of a blend of caramel, spice, and then a bit of burnt malt barrel so pleasant on an excellently carbonated body.

Bourbon. Oh yeah did I say bourbon. This beer is dark bc of the blend and boozey. This beer is unique and tasty and should probably be enjoyed first.

2014 Bottle; Pour is murky brown, with a modest, fine bubbled khaki head into this glass. The nose is a touch subtle at least initially- but fairly nice. I sense sweet bread, nutty undertones, moving to caramel toffee, with feint brown sugar. As it warms, the sense of booze and wood comes through heavier. The flavor profile is sticky caramel, toffee, moving to dark fruits with some alcohol presence. Chocolate and roast , with earthy barrel notes and a touch of vanilla - Itís interesting - but it becomes a touch muddled at the finish line. Ultimately though - this one needed a bit of age right now

Bottle: Deep brown with a thin tan head. Strong wood, bourbon raisin scent. Dark fruit and raisin flavours......alcohol heat and caramel malt. Sweet and sticky.... Nice....and very bourbon-y.

375 ml bottle, poured into a snifter at approximately 55 degrees F. A: This is single darkest barleywine I have ever poured - it resembles a stout, dark as can be. The iPhone flashlight test reveals almost no light getting through it save for a tiny spot of ruby highlight. It forms a pale tan head which dies swiftly to a ring. S: Thatís bourbony on the nose, all booze and hardwood with an odd, harsh sort of anise-vanilla extract mixture. Plenty of oak and alcohol wreath through this aroma. T: Interesting. This is a sweet, sweet beer, not unlike heavy molasses with alcohol in it. Sharp notes of toffee are rounded off with caramel, and thereís no shortage of oak and maple character to the flavor. The finish tastes of molasses and brown sugar almost enough to convince one that there are grains of sugar in the beer as it goes down. Some tinges of the vanilla extract from the scent are present, though none of the anise. The bourbon emerges more and more as it warms, taking over the taste profile. M: Watery, yet sticky, and definitely towards the flat side (as one would expect from a barrel-aged beer). O: This is one of the single most bourbony barrel-aged beers Iíve tried, with an aftertaste of alcohol that has some of the sting and burn of sipping directly on a couple fingers of whiskey neat. While barleywines by and large are boozy things, this takes the booziest award by far. It would probably do well with a year or two in the cellar.

Bottle. Earthy raisin, bourbon, and toffee malt aroma. Murky brown with small head. Sweet raisin/dried cherry, toffee malt, orange peel and alcohol flavor. Moderately strong bourbon in the finish.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2014 vintage. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a dark brown color with about a half inch off-white head. Head retention is decent, and thereís a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like vanilla, bourbon, caramel, toffee, brown sugar and dark fruit. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but thereís also the addition of some wood, molasses and dark bread. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, itís syrupy and coating with low/moderate carbonation. Itís a pretty tasty brew, might have to pick up some more of this! It was either $11.99 or $12.99 a bottle, I forget which. Regardless of the price, itís worth trying at least once.

Bottle: Number 61/342. Batch 12. Thanks, Jason. Murky, nebulous body; looks like brown swamp water second runnings. Barely any head, exceedingly thin khaki collar. Aroma of sweet plums & dates coated in caramel syrup & dunked in barrel proof bourbon. Bits of black licorice, wood, toffee, faint coconut & vanilla, & again, loooots of bourbon. Flavor heavy with sticky toffee & malty brown sugar up front, along with mounds of bourbon soaked oak, plums, dates, & black cherry. Strong undercurrent of vanilla, coconut, mild anise, & warming booze. Finishes surprisingly dry with a small hint of woody tannin. Lingering malty sweetness, brown sugar, & bourbon. I actually enjoyed this more than AleSmithís BA Old Numbskull which I was expecting to like more. Like settling for the slightly less appealing assistant captain cheerleader then finding out her parents are millionaires. Score.
