This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Bottle at Hamilton Creek. Bottle was in the 200’s. Thank’s for sharing Tim. Pours a dark viscous black with a dissipating brown head. Thick oily mouthfeel. Aroma of bourbon and dark plummy fruits. Initial flavor of dark rich chocolate, cherry, and vanilla, and transitions to more tannic notes on the sides of the tongue (sort of distracting). Spicy and warming alcohol on the finish. Overall, very nice and has me anxious to try more of these barrel aged beers.

22oz. bomber, with a big thanks to alexsdad06. Pours dark brown with a moderate dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate, espresso, ripe dark fruits, some toasty oak, and a hint of vanilla and bourbon, but very much in the background. Flavor follows nicely with more chocolate, rich ripe fruits, some espresso, and hints of bourbon, toasted oak and vanilla. The barrel is very nice on this one, and both the barrel aging and higher ABV are barely noticeable and in a complimentary role. Wow, this one did not disappoint, thanks a ton Brad!

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2013 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, caramel and bourbon alcohol aroma. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Heavy bittersweet dark chocolate malty flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small bourbon alcohol bite finish of long duration. This is another standout beer.

Sample from a growler. Big notes of bourbon, wood, vanilla, roasted malts and molasses. Black with an average tan head. Very sweet with some bitterness. Palate is very full bodied and oily. Good. Better than I expected.

Huge thanks to Ryan011235 on BA for hooking up this tick. Pours black and thick with a lasting one-finger tan head and good lacing. The aroma is pretty nice, with oak and bourbon as well as great base stout notes of roast and dark chocolate. Great complex flavor. Bourbon, oak, and bourbon- soaked dark fruits, along with coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, and vanilla. Complex and very tasty. The mouthfeel is better than Oil of Aphrodite, smooth and not too syrupy with softer carbonation. Great stuff, really impressive and better than expectations.

Thanks to Enzofan. Rated during blind tasting. Dark brown/black pour with thin tan head. Vanilla, bourbon, caramel, and a whiff of pine on the the nose. Toffee, vanilla, dark sugars, chocolate, and bourbon in the flavor. medium mouthfeel.

On tap into a snifter. Appearance is black with a tan head and some lacing. Aroma is a perfect combination of chocolate, licorice, caramel, bourbon, and alcohol. Taste is a fantastic mix of chocolate and bourbon with the alcohol coming through in the finish. Unlike the other bourbon barrel beers from this brewery, the bourbon here is more of an afterthought rather than a dominant characteristic. This is a thick beer that rests heavily on the tongue. I believe this is one of my favorites from my trip to this brewer and likely the best made in the area.

Bottle shared by StFun...thanks Josh! - Pours deep and dark with a nice tan head. Smell is lots of smooth molasses and brown sugar, light bourbon. Not over the top...smooth. Taste is sweet and roasty, with nice brown sugar mingling with the bourbon. Really sweet taste, but not cloying. Definitely a sipper--couldn’t drink a bunch of this one.

bottle #251/384 enjoyed to my head, courtesy of davehs, thanks a ton! nice pour, 1 finger thick brown headon a nearly opaque black body. the aroma is very nice and scotchy, some smoke, but a bit brighter note that the woodford barrels seem to impart to other beers like black ops as well. in that and the taste, i would say its an very nice barrel profile. strong, but not too much so for my personal taste. damn nice beer, nice and well rounded, complex, tasty, easy drinker. This one is worth a try if you can find it.

Bottle. Courtesy of mothman. Bottle # 231/384. Pours a very dark brown/black color with minimal head that only slightly collars around the glass. Giving the glass a swirl generates a brown sugar colored coastered head. Dark fruits, molasses, bourbon, and caramel. Slight tinge of leather. Slight lace on the glass after being swirled. Medium mouthfeel. The taste starts off with an almost sweet start that then transitions to a leathery bitter roast flavor followed by the warmth of the bourbon notes. Also get some dark chocolate residual flavors. The bourbon is nice but a little hot and you feel the warmth all the way down. Not bad but I’d like to see a little heavier mouthfeel.
