COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2010 Growler sent my way from goryshkewych. Pours deep black with a big tan head. Nose is huge wood, deep dark chocolate and massive bourbon. Flavor is intensely roasty with big massive chocolate and molasses notes. A little brown sugar, super smooth from the barrel and really assertive (perhaps a little to much so) bourbon. This is amazingly done but this would be a top ten beer if the bourbon was a tad less in your face. Amazing nonetheless though.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2011 Re-Rate: Bottle #224 (2010). Shared at the Nashville Beer Summit. Sweet Bourbon aroma, flavor is light, but definite alcohol burn, albeit still syrupy/malty sweet. really dark head, thick and syrupy, with not much flavor. What is there is smooth, tho. Bottle from a tasting at the house of chris Montelius

Courtesy of hopdog. Pours a dark brown with a thin but persistent lighter brown head. Smells of vanilla, some smoke, sweet malt, boozy. Tastes smoky and roasty with layered chocolate, some oaky hints, and a dry boozy finish.

Opaque black color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon, cocoa, smoke, wood, nuts, and alcohol. Taste of dark chocolate, burnt wood, smoke, bourbon, vanilla, roast, and light alcohol.

Growler shared by JW77. This is my kind of beer!! Almost a black pour. Small tan head. Sweet bourbon and chocolate heaven erupt from the glass. Some light roast notes as well. Flavor is just full and rich...tons of bourbon, brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, oak, caramel and some fruity notes. Damn this is good.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2009 Growler from sliffy... Close to black pour with darker brown edges. Quickly dissipating light brown head... Chocolatey smoke with a dark roast aroma. Lots of bourbon and heat coming through as well.... Flavors are hugely barrel forward with more of a smoky scotch quality to it. Medium bodied with some heat on the backend. fantastic sipper.

From a growler provided by sliffy! Pours black with a quickly dissapating brown head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, caramel. Flavor is bourbon blast, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, coconut, caramel. Palate is silky smooth with a full body, mild carbonation, and boozy finish. Definitely bourbon forward, but not over the top. Very well done.

On draught at the brewpub, served in a snifter. The beer pours black with a medium thick brown head that diminishes to an outer ring eventually. Thick rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and bourbon. Rich body with flavors of chocolate, bourbon-soaked wood, dark fruit and a bit of coffee. The finish is roasty with a bittersweet chocolate and booze finish. Very enjoyable overall.

Hand Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and a hint of maple syrup. There’s some light heat to the aroma. It pours a dark brown, with no transparency, and virtually no head. There are a few bubbles during the pour, but they disappear instantly. The flavor starts with a hint of dark chocolate. The finish has a fruity tanginess, along with moderate bourbon and alcohol. It has a maple syrup and faint woody aftertaste. Medium-full bodies with minimal carbonation and a slick mouthfeel.
