This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Opaque black , thin tan lacing. Sweet aroma of chocolate, bourbon, figs, raisins, brown sugar, and hints of charred oak. Well balanced between the malty sweetness and bourbon character, and full-bodied. Finish is chocolatey and warming; the alcohol is well hidden.

22 oz. bottle, sent from St. Fun (thanks Josh), pours black with a small tan / light brown head. Aroma of bourbon barrels and vanilla upfront, followed by caramel. Flavour brings out bourbon and vanilla upfront, with some dark fruits and caramel malts deeper down. The bourbon and vanilla notes are very upfront, totally taking over without being overburdening. Totally different than the base beer no doubt (even though I got an infected bottle of the base beer). Soft palate, with a lingering vanilla and booze aftertaste. Excellent stuff.

In short: A well balanced roasty medium-bourbonny impy stout that doesn’t overdo anything. Excellent beer.
How: Bottle 22oz. From the first batch, Consumed when almost 2 years of age, bottle 77 of 216 sent to me by alexsdad06, thanks a lot Brad.
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head quickly dissipating to a beige ring of foam that doesn’t leave much lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is black chocolate, roasty, moderately bourbonny, more oaky than bourbon. Taste has a surprisingly strong roast for a bourbon barrel aged beer, lots of bittersweet high cacao % black chocolate, a light charcoal sensation, soft bourbon presence, mild vanilla smoothening out the roast. There is some alcohol heat but considering this is 12% brew I’d say the alcohol is mostly well hidden. Nice mouthfeel with plenty of soft bubbles to support this corpulent body. Far from a barrel orgy this was a very cohesive beer with just enough roast to balance the sweetness but without overwhelming the beer. Not sure if it is because I waited just long enough before drinking it but I thought this was a great beer from a brewery that disappoints me more often than not. It was way too easy to drink the bull bomber, and I could feel the 12% AFTER drinking the bomber. A nice beer I acquired in a trade, where alexsdad06 accepted to send me cool beer bottles if I sent him cool beer bottles, and I find it fascinating to think that us beer traders are actually grown-ups.

BOOM!!! This thing is killer! Great pour of dark dark chocolate with a healthy khaki head. Nose is full of bourbon and chocolate. Loads of bourbon and chocolate. Sweet malts follow. Flavor is, again, loaded with bourbon and chocolate. Super smooth with a very faint bite in the end. Sweet caramel follows with a lingering finish. Glad to have shared this one with ten people... wish I would’ve kept it all to myself.

Pours jet black with no head. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate, roast, bourbon and vanilla. Taste is slightly tart, bourbon and vanilla. Moderate mouthfeel, just not loving the tartness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber to snifter (thanks alexsdad06). Looks good; a mostly opaque dark cola with thin beige lacing. Smells and tastes good too; sweet, malty, and boozy. Nice and smooth on the palate. Good beer!

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small, very dark tan head leaving spotty lacing. Nose shows heavy bourbon and spice with bitter sweet dark cocoa and brown sugar. Very bitter sweet in the taste. A little grainy. Loads of bitter espresso tones with heavy dark cocoa powder. Brown sugar and spice from the barrel go nicely. A little rough around the edges but comes together nicely in the end. Solid stuff ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber 157/348, 2012 vintage from trade with DrSilverworm. Pours pitch black with very little head. Very nice aroma of bourbon, caramel, dark roasted malt, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste is just a great balance of all the aromas. Light sweetness is perfect. Finish is smooth and creamy with a slight bitterness. Bourbon and caramel lingers on tongue. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and very creamy. No alcohol present. My kinda BB imperial stout. Very nice.
