This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition cause this ghost is a creeper.

Bottle thanks to JMikolich! Pours inky black with a small creamy brown head that dissipates with good lacing. Aroma is roasty, bourbon, oak, vanilla, a touch of funk. Flavor is similar, very tannic, oaky, bourbon. Roasty and chocolate notes as well, it seems like there might be just a tiny bit of infection, but it is not actually distracting. Very woody. Medium sweet and light bitter. Very interesting.

Bottle (2012 vintage) shared at a recent bottle share... Poured an oily black with a thin head. Some acid and mild tanginess in here. As it opened up wood and bourbon soaked wood came through with a big bitter-sweet molasses note. Improved as of warmed becoming more complex. Some sweetness and mild alcohol presence, but it seemed like the year or so of aging has helped this one out.

Glenn coming in strong, and sharing another outstanding beer for the car ride, poured a dark brown color with aromas of roast, light caramel, light dark fruits, and some earth. Flavors follow suit, light chocolate thrown in, another great beer from Jackie-Os.

Thanks Jstax ! Pours a dark silky burnt umber color with a foamy gaseous three fingers of khaki foam. The nose is rich with burnt chocolate, boozy fruit, raisin, bourbon and vanilla. The mouthfeel is a touch oily with a trace of bubble that cleans it up slightly but the palate is so rich and full with lots of dark deep fruit mingling with rich bittersweet chocolate and burnt roasted edges. Complexity rolls through with barrel notes and warm vanilla spices.

2012 bottle (that says its 10.5%, not 12%). Pours a deep viscous brown without any head. Aroma is big, sweet bourbon, wood, roast, vanilla, lots of booze. Taste is roasty, chocolate bourbon. Very smooth with a slightly dry finish.

Opaque black , thin tan lacing. Sweet aroma of chocolate, bourbon, figs, raisins, brown sugar, and hints of charred oak. Well balanced between the malty sweetness and bourbon character, and full-bodied. Finish is chocolatey and warming; the alcohol is well hidden.
