This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition cause this ghost is a creeper.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small, very dark tan head leaving spotty lacing. Nose shows heavy bourbon and spice with bitter sweet dark cocoa and brown sugar. Very bitter sweet in the taste. A little grainy. Loads of bitter espresso tones with heavy dark cocoa powder. Brown sugar and spice from the barrel go nicely. A little rough around the edges but comes together nicely in the end. Solid stuff ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber 157/348, 2012 vintage from trade with DrSilverworm. Pours pitch black with very little head. Very nice aroma of bourbon, caramel, dark roasted malt, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste is just a great balance of all the aromas. Light sweetness is perfect. Finish is smooth and creamy with a slight bitterness. Bourbon and caramel lingers on tongue. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and very creamy. No alcohol present. My kinda BB imperial stout. Very nice.

Bottle at Woodshop 7. Pours a deep black with thin khaki head. Overly coffee aroma. Very thin hop profile on this beer with the coffee coming on more and more. Light barrel but more like an iced coffee. Somewhat refreshing if that is possible in a BA stout.

Bottle 42/384. It pours pitch black with a creamy small brown head. The aroma has strong notes of bourbon and chocolate with side notes of roasted malt, vanilla and dried fruit. The flavour is vanilla, sweet caramel, toasted malt, chocolate, oak and has a warming powerfull sweet roasted finish.

22oz bottle from JOs, looks great, has great thickness and feel to it, really a big stout, the woodford reserve is a hot bourbon mess though, taste has too much bourbon in it for me, over powers an already great stout. for the -bal fans this is probably a treat, it needs to lose the bourbon heat..brought back bad memories of shooting cheap bourbon.

Straight from Seans (Sean9689) kegerator. 2010 vintage served in a Portsmouth tulip. A: Pours a jet black color, very thick, with a one finger thick brick of dark chocolate foam forming on the pour. It recedes slowly leaving behind some splotchy lace and oily stick. S: Dark fruits and unsweetened chocolate are first on the nose with some oaky wood, light bourbon and some dark wheat bread malts. T: Light bourbon and oak. Chocolate and sweet molasses with dark fruits and wheat malts. Very well integrated. M: Smooth and creamy. The carbonation is on the medium to low end and works beautiful off the viscous and chewy body. O: The age has really smooth out this beer into a chewy and decadent treat. Huge thanks to Sean for sharing this guy with all of us. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 05-21-2012

Deep black-brown body. Moderate head, spotty lacing. Nose is a rich bourbon-vanilla, oak, booze- and a pleasant roast and chocolate. Not overly assertive, but nice. Flavor carries this balanced approach. Bourbon, chocolate, roast, a little coffee. Full bodied, silky feel across the tongue, nice lingering roasty finish. Light alcohol presence. No burn.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike! Bottle 188 / 384 The beer appears a deep, dark shade of brown, bordering on blackness. The beige head is nearly a finger thick and leaves some good lacing on the glass. The aroma is bourbon and roast, with additional notes of oak, chocolate, and vanilla - very nice. Delicious tasting beer, with bold flavors of chocolate and vanilla. Bourbon is quite present as well, but the beer doesnt come across as overly boozy. Terrifically balanced, this is an excellent barrel aged stout. The feel is rich, buttery, and creamy. Alcohol content is there to a certain degree, but the beer never comes off as hot. I thoroughly enjoyed this aspect of the beer. Overall, extremely well done. Id really like to have this one again. Highly recommended. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-24-2011
