This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition cause this ghost is a creeper.

375ml bottle pours an inky black with some ringing, brown head. Nose has a lot of roast and toast, mild booze, bready, molasses. Flavor is sweeter, molasses, licorice, black pepper, caramel. Finishes a little hot and lightly peppery.

Black colored pour. Small ring of tan bubbles. Not much lacing. Sour aroma of spoiled vegetables and a slight chocolate. Taste is chalky chocolate and the faintest hint of bourbon. Finishes good despite the aforementioned problems.

Soil and manure aroma, very earthy. Mahogany, thin tan head. Tobacco and prune flavor. Unique, but not really something I enjoy.

UPDATED: OCT 9, 2014 Bottle. Black with a medium sized diminishing light brown head. Lots of bourbon vanilla/coconut, cocoa, wet wood, brown sugar, light herbal/green hops. Full body, oily/sticky texture, soft carbonation, medium/heavy sweet and bitter. Good, but the tannins from the barrel makes it a bit rough compared to the original.

12 oz bottle. Thanks, Ryan and Julie. Full-on dark black; not a huge head, which dissipates into nothing and cant be revived with swirling. Aroma is big, full, dark, malt, caramel, alcohol, booze, chocolate, toffee, wow. Flavor is amazing... Huge, boozy, sweet, malty, wood, oak, more booze, tobacco, deep cherry, WOW. Full body, sticky, low in carbonation. Approaches the craziness of Dark Lord but doesnt require 5 years of aging to drink. Really super good. Contender for the best Ive ever had.

Pre-DLD bottle share at Hampton Inn. Pour is black with small tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is of pure coffee and booze, not much else. Flavor is roasted coffee, bourbon, roasted marshmallow, and chocolate chips. Finish is dried fruit and warming alcohol.
