2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle ??/300, courtesy of Mark @ Sloshfest. Some vanilla and oak in both the aroma and taste. It’s an okay bourbon stout, but definitely not worth chasing down, being as hard to find as it is. For something this rare, it’s not going to set the world on fire.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
2012 vintage. Bottle 254/300. Looks perfect on the pour- opaque dark brown, small brown head that settles into a ring and leaves some spots of lace. The aroma is a little too fruity. That’s the first sign of trouble. It has butter, vanilla, molasses, and then some plum-like fruit. Not really getting much of the barrel or the base stout. The flavor really shows that infection has set in. Tons of plums, berries, and soy, with some vanilla, molasses, and earth. The tartness lingers in the way, way back of the palate. Almost an umami kind of sensation. Full-bodied, with low carbonation. I know this is a great beer. I can sense it. It just got infected. Such a bummer. I’ll re-rate next time I get a hold of it at the brewery.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured jet black with with a moderate forming egg-shell/off-white head. Nice roast and woody oak notes here. Dense sweetness that added complexity with all the bourbon and toasted grains. Dark chocolate, vanilla, and bitter-sweet molasses. Some nuttiness but I would say that the barrel was more of the highlight here over the black walnuts.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Somehow, a 3 litre of this beer showed up at Hill Farmstead and was split like 50 ways from a generous guy. 3 litres of OoA? WOW. Appearance was glossy oily and refined. no head of course given the size of that damn bottle. Nose was burnt chocolate and cinnamon buns. Smokiness is a bit of a downer. Taste is very smoky but in a clean chocolate smores sort of way. heavy finish and very memorable.

Bottle... Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, beige head. The bouquet is roasty with big walnuts alongside fudge and lactic acid. Medium to full-bodied with laid-back carbonation. The flavor offers fudge, toasted nuts and a mild note of lactic acidity. Finishes nutty, chocolaty and lightly tart. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian!

Bottle from Reserve Society- pours a stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roast, coffee, vanilla, booze, wood, some nutty sweetness. Flavor is similar- roast, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, some booze, nutty sweetness, and a hint of wood. Light to medium in body for the style and lingering nutty sweetness in the finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours black in color with a medium sizedfine beige head. The aroma has roasted malts, chocolate, some black walnut nutty character, wood, bourbon and vanilla. The flavor has much of the same and shows a nice integration of flavors. Some tannin character from the wood shows. Reports of infection were not noticed. In fact, this was very good.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sample from 2012 bottle #324/348 at the Jackie O’s / food paring on 02/16/2013: Pours brownish-black with a minimal off-white head that disappears to a sparse outer ring quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, bourbon and nuts. Full-bodied with flavors of bourbon, chocolate malt and roasted nuts. The finish is mildly boozy with a malty and nutty aftertaste. Good beer all around.
