Sample during Jackie Os BBDA and Oil of Aphrodite Release and Barrel aged Beer Festival on 9/11/10. Darkest brown pour with a thick tan head. Malty aroma with chocolate, roast and the slightest bit of smoke. Malty flavor with some tartness and smoke before a roasty and chocolatey finish. Not nearly as smoky as I expected. More roasty than anything, but still nice.

On tap at the brewery during the Barrel Aged Beer Festival. Poured near black with a gray brown head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma had lots of smoked malt with some coffee and dark grains. Bourbon was a backing note. Flavor was similar with lots of smoked malt and a bit of coffee and a bit of backing bourbon.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2010 Sample at Jackie Os as part of Ohio Brew Week. This brew pours a flat dark brown color with a medium thin light tan head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt and grain. Rich and smooth body with flavors of mild coffee, oak, smoky malt and chocolate. The finish is subtly smoked with a grain and dark malt aftertaste. Solid beer overall, although I have not had the regular version the barrel aging is really understated in this beer.
