3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The beer pours black in color with a tan head to go with it.
S: Brandy aromas practically jump out of the glass on this one. Very vinous with a nice spirit character as well. Oak and vanilla are also there, as is a graham cracker sweetness to balance the roast and dark chocolate. Perhaps a hint of butter.
T: The flavor is fairly sweet from all the fruit notes of the brandy. Lots of molasses, graham cracker, and vanilla also contribute to that. All the roast is sort of counteracted here. A little bit of tannic oak is also present.
M: Medium bodied with a low, smooth carbonation.
O: Significantly better than the Bourbon version. The butter on the nose was the thing that held this one back from being a real stand out.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A deep dark stout with a thick brown head. In aroma, a more complex chocolate, sweeter, more coffee notes, light soy sauce, very nice. In mouth, a rounder and sweeter version of DA, with fruity notes, dark fruits, molasses, warming alcohol, superb. Bottle from Boutip, shared with GRM, Probstk and Ian, Dec. 2 2011.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle… Pours close to black with a small, beige head. Good, lengthy, tight retention. The bouquet furnishes fudge, caramel and toasted tree nuts flanked by a hint of vanilla and whispers of dark berries. Full-bodied and velvety with zippy carbonation. Quite burnt and moderately bitter – nice balance of dark chocolate and caramel. Finishes acrid and torched with a tiny pinch of salt. The brandy barrel did not stand out at all to me, although I’m certain it provided some of the nice, fruity, berry-like esters. Thanks go out to darkguardian for sharing this rarity!

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber, 2011 vintage, #21/240. Poured deep brown with a short-lived, spotty dark beige head. The aroma was very sweet, with warm brandy, chocolate, vanilla, and more rich vinous notes leading.. oak, vanilla, and peppery notes stick around the back of the nose for a really long time.. warmth brought out a lot of tangy character. The flavor found a huge dose of jammy fruit and oaky brandy barrel the whole way through.. toasted chocolate, biscuity notes, and burnt coffee supported, but struggled to balance out the strong, tangy barrel.. finished tart with a lot of brandy barrel over sweet, tasty cocoa and coffee. Medium-plus bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. too much barrel initially, but it balanced out a lot better as it warmed up. Good stuff.

Rich body with flavors of brandy, roasted malt, and chocolate. The finish is buttery and malty and leaves a lingering sweetness. Good beer overall.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle with many thanks to Beerman6686. Pours black. Brown head. Nose/taste of sweet chocolate, brandy barrel, oak, coffee and vanilla. Barrel aging really brings out the brandy in the warming alcohol finish. Roasty chocolate and coffee finish with a touch of warming brandy. Excellent.
