COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Firefly Amber Ale has been a staple in our brewpub for the past 5 years. After 4 years of brewing our beloved amber, I decided to change things up a bit and double the recipe. Twice the amount of malt and hops went in to our kettles and created something fantastic, something SuperFly! To take this new creation to the next level we allowed it to age inside brandy barrels for 8 months. Big notes of biscuit, caramel, toffee, and tantalizing brandy character that contributed fruity complexities and hints of American oak. Pair with stinky cheeses, bread pudding, and beef burgundy.

This beer was almost certainly infected. If I get the opportunity, Ill have a proper batch and fix the rating as needed. This beer poured a muddy shade of brown and had virtually no head. Aroma was... earthy, to put it kindly. Sour yeast and booze taste. Mouthfeel was flat.

(Thanks Josh "StFun") Bottle. A- Shit, sewage water, slightly boozy, caramel. A- Copper color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, slightly boozy, dirty, unbalanced, slightly sour. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, astringent finish. O- This was really bad. So bad and off tasting, I cant help but believe this is infected. That or Jackie Os made such an awful beer that it was a drain pour. Plus, I dont think this was supposed to be sour at all. Big let down with this one.

Sample @ RBWG, Asheville. Amber pour with a small head. Farty yeast aroma. Slightly boozy wood and apricot orchard. Taste of apple and bruised pear. Old leather and wood. Strong yeast character. Medium body, soft carbonation.

2011 Vintage, #127/341
Tasted from bottle at the Friday night tasting at RBWG Asheville, thanks to Bzake17 for sharing. Pours hazy burnt orange with a thin beige head that slowly recedes to thin lace. The nose is funky, a bit tart, with sweet caramel and some vanilla oak. The flavor is the same with the dry funk, starting to turn more sour, with the malty and barrel character on the back. The body is full, almost syrupy, with average carbonation and a long funky caramel finish.

>> Pours amber with low carbonation, no foam. Nose is caramel, toffee, buttery barrel, flashes of white alcohol and acetone. Taste is thin, tart, souring/acidic, raspberries, sour berries. Interesting, just beware that it has certainly soured in the barrel.

2014 RBWG. Bottle shared at the Friday Night Downtown Inn Bottle Share 2011 bottle #127/341. Clear medium brown almost no head. Complex aroma. Vinous. Theres a slightly sharp vinous sourness to this that detracts from the overall. Started better than it ended up.

Bottle at RBWG 2014, thanks! Pours a clear amber orange with a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has brandy and sweet grains with a bit of toffee backing. Flavor has notes of sweet grain and sweet bread with a touch of brandy.

Bottle at RBWG, courtesy of someone. Pours a brown color with white head. Fake toy plastic, tangy, tart fruity flavors. Ehh, pass.

22oz bottle, shared by bzake17. 2011 bottle, bottle 127 of 341. Mostly clear amber orange color, kinda darker. Minimal head. So... You can tell this is sour from the nose alone. But its not unpleasant from the smell, so far. Lactic sour. Taste is kind of bad though. Taste is sour in a bad way, doesnt work well with the aroma. You get a lot of caramel malts, toffee. And then sour. Doesnt work. Light hints of apple brandy wood, that are not pleasant with the sourness. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Longer brandy barrel aftertaste, not bad in the finish. Interesting stuff. I bet it was way different and way better fresh, though.
