Firefly Amber Ale has been a staple in our brewpub for the past 5 years. After 4 years of brewing our beloved amber, I decided to change things up a bit and double the recipe. Twice the amount of malt and hops went in to our kettles and created something fantastic, something SuperFly! To take this new creation to the next level we allowed it to age inside brandy barrels for 8 months. Big notes of biscuit, caramel, toffee, and tantalizing brandy character that contributed fruity complexities and hints of American oak. Pair with stinky cheeses, bread pudding, and beef burgundy.

Hazy amber brown beer, short lived off white head. Fairly dry palate with moderate carbonation. Sweet dry malt. Dried fruits. A little wood and sweet brandy. Dry finish. All right but I was hoping for something a lot more substantial and structured.

Had on draft fresh and in the bottle various times. The rating takes all into consideration. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma is sweet caramel, vanilla, big barrel notes, and fruity. The flavor is more sweet caramel malts, brandy, wood, vanilla, apricots and other fruits. The problem is the sweetness and the flavors dont all work together. Fresh this was much better and it seemed to come apart in the bottle.

Bottle shared by ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad. The beer appears amber to orange in color, with a thin, wispy head that leaves only sparse lacing on the snifter. The aroma offers oak, wine, tannins, grapes. The flavor is odd and not at all what I expected. Like tannic grape juice, with overabundant barrel character. Really out of kilter, and unrecognizable as a porter. The beer is very smooth on the palate, with low carbonation. Overall, fun to try, but not a repeat. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-04-2012

Poured from 22 oz. poured murky brown with just a bit of beige head. Aroma is fairly nonexistent with hints of dried fruit. Taste follows the nose unfortunately. Not much here. A little fig and caramel.

Pour murky deep orange, with a small white head. Aroma is a bit perfumed and it smells a bit like fart. Also some caramel, wood, dark fruits and brandy comes through. The taste is rather sweet, with some bitter notes as well. Medium bodied, with a semi-flat carbonation.

22 oz bomber. Hazy caramel color, small white head. Aroma is very perfumy and soapy, smells a bit like toilet cleaner, some strong brandy notes, gooseberries. Not exactly unpleasant, but nuttier than a snickers. Taste is lightly sour, some brandy taste, alcohol notes, dry mouthfeel. Very weird sourness, dry wood tannins. Funny stuff, couldn't drink more than one glass.

22 ounce bottle poured a cloudy amber color, aromas of toffee, brandy, bread, light musk, and some caramel. Flavors are the same less the musk, and some oak and vanilla are in the flavors.

22 oz. bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks again, Blake! 2011 vintage, bottle 310/341. Pours a cloudy, darkish orange with a small beige head that quickly settles into a ring. Lots of vanilla in both aroma and flavor, both from the base beer (which gives it a creaminess) and from the barrel (which gives it more of a sticky sugary quality). Good amount of brandy, as well, with caramel, dried apricots, and sweet bread. Medium-bodied, with a malty, chewy mouthfeel and low carbonation. Sweet and messy.
