COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Firefly Amber Ale has been a staple in our brewpub for the past 5 years. After 4 years of brewing our beloved amber, I decided to change things up a bit and double the recipe. Twice the amount of malt and hops went in to our kettles and created something fantastic, something SuperFly! To take this new creation to the next level we allowed it to age inside brandy barrels for 8 months. Big notes of biscuit, caramel, toffee, and tantalizing brandy character that contributed fruity complexities and hints of American oak. Pair with stinky cheeses, bread pudding, and beef burgundy.

Hazy amber brown beer, short lived off white head. Fairly dry palate with moderate carbonation. Sweet dry malt. Dried fruits. A little wood and sweet brandy. Dry finish. All right but I was hoping for something a lot more substantial and structured.

(Bottle) Pours a hazy amber body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of oak, brandy, vanilla, nuts, and herbs. Flavor of brandy, oak, bread, caramel, and herbs.

Pours amber in color with a khaki colored head. There’s a light butter quality to the nose which is not very pleasing. Some sweet toffee and other sugar notes to go with a hint of vanilla and oak. Just a hint of brandy on the nose. The flavor is similarly lackluster. Mild brandy, sweet toffee and malt, and too much butter (well, any is really too much). Maybe just a hint of dark fruit. Medium body and carbonation.

Tap sample. Poured dark hazy brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex earthy hop and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy same hop and woody bittersweet flavor with a solid bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid complex beer.

Brownish pour, light cream head. Aroma of brandy, sugar, caramel, candy corn. Flavor is sweet, a bit oxidized, buttery, booze, toffee.

Bottle... Hazy burnt-orange ale with a small, creamy, white head. The aroma offers up caramel, earthy wood, praline, lactic acid and some odd funk that I can’t quite place. Full-bodied and silky with low carbonation. In the flavor, tangy lactic acid notes overrun the malty goodness that once was. There’s only trace bitterness here. Finishes tangy and a touch dry. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian!

Bottle @ Armin’s house. Hazy, reddish ruby appearance with a small, tan head. Raspberry, tangy berry, spicy liquor, a touch bready aroma. Rich, red grape, brandy, dry, caramel, spicy, berry flavor. Fuck, this baby is all over the place. Drinkable but a little oxidized and not all that great.

My first Jackie-O. The aroma had the brandy. Sour, cherryish, astringent, medicinal. Overcarbonated. Grows on me, so drinkable. Decent beer, but overall disappointing.

>> Pours amber with low carbonation, no foam. Nose is caramel, toffee, buttery barrel, flashes of white alcohol and acetone. Taste is thin, tart, souring/acidic, raspberries, sour berries. Interesting, just beware that it has certainly soured in the barrel.

RBWG14 Trip Rating #28. Bottle shared at the Friday Night Downtown Inn Bottle Share. Pours a clear copper color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of heavy wood, earth, leather, toffee, brandy. The taste is tart stone fruits, earth, raisin, brandy.
