Daytonbeer (585) - Ohio, USA - NOV 27, 2013
Pours cloudy brown with tan head and tons of lacing. Aroma of spices like clove and allspice. Not what I expected. Taste is more of what I expected from a barley wine, but it has a peppery finish. Interesting.

czar (3812) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 16, 2013
pours dark brown reddish with a small light beige head, some retention and lacing. booze, chocolate, red fruitiness, wood and demerara, light acidity and sweetness, raisins, phenols, onions, pepper, herbal tea. moderate to low carbonation, medium body, astringent peppery-grassy finish. ok.

mathieuc (999) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 15, 2013
Pours a deep brown with a light beige head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is really boozy upfront but also carries some brown sugar notes. Taste is sweet, really sweet like barley candies. Alcohol not very well hideen. Mouthfeel is sticky and body is medium. Not bad.

b3shine (4465) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 13, 2013
Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks good; a cloudy dark amberish brown with ample foamy light beige head. Smells solid; sweet and malty. Tastes like it smells with a decent (albeit a little thin) mouthfeel. Started better than it finished.

phaleslu (5889) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 18, 2013
Draft in a sampler on the Public House side. Pours a deep plum-amber color with a good haze to it and no head. The aroma and flavor both take a while to emerge, particularly the aroma. Notes of toffee, brown sugar, toast, nuts, raisin, fig- this actually suggests an almost Belgian yeast character with the big, rich fruit profile. Thinner than anticipated, with minimal carbonation and a ribbony, then coating mouthfeel. A bit of a letdown after having such a positive experience with the Rum Brick Kiln.

FROTHINGSLOSH (4546) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 9, 2013
From the February 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a growler this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black - with a small soapy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was wood, sweet caramel, fig, cherry and fruity hops. The flavor was sweet fig, raisin, caramel, molasses, vague fruity hops and a touch of tobacco. Long wood, tobacco and cherry finish. Moderately full bodied. Well done.

Draft at brewpub (Aug.2012). Pours a hazy orange brown color with a small off white head. The aroma is on the sweet side with caramel malts and fruits dominating. Toffee, a mild nuttiness and very light smoke seemed to come through as well. The flavor was caramel malt forward with some raisins and other fruits as well. A hint of nuts integrates nicely. The alcohol was noticeable, but not distracting. A nice one to sip on as the weather gets colder.

theisti (3094) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - SEP 5, 2012
Approximately 4 ounce sample at the Jackie O’s Public House in Athens, Ohio. The pour is a very hazed brown orange with a small tan head. The aroma is a rounded sweet malt, a bit of vanilla, and then big malt nuttiness. The taste is the nutty sweet malt, dark fruit, then turns to a sharp and harsh alcohol bite. The palate is medium to heavy bodied, low carbonation, and a dry boozy finish. Has potential.

Review from a 4 oz. taster glass. 4.0 A: Medium brown color. Short tan, creamy nitro head. 4.5 S: Big sweet neutral maltiness to start. Exceptionally fruity with raisin, currants, and plum. Caramel and toffee galore. Booze is very well hidden. Wonderful. 4.0 T: Taste is for the most part like the nose except that there’s also a light sugariness to accompany the other flavors. 4.5 M: Heavy body. Super creamy with a perfect nitro level. Velvety and smooth. 4.5 D: Good integration of flavors, easy to drink, great mouthfeel, and well balanced. Serving type: nitro-tap Reviewed on: 08-20-2012 23:01:19
