Pretty much an opaque dark brown beer, small creamy tan colour head. Palate is semi dry and crisp. Dark toffee malts, not sweet. Slight oxidised taste. Light woody biiterness. Traces of dark chocolate and spice. Semi dry finish. Simple but tasty and effective.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2014 Bottle bought @ The Mikkeller Webshop. Pours dark wooden brown with a thin goldenish beige head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and malty with caramel, toffee, sweet dark bread, prunes, raisins, in brandy, hay, alcohol, oatmeal, orange zest and alcohol. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter and malty with caramel, toffee, toasted malts, prunes, hay, leather, alcohol, oatmeal and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is soft, round, velvety, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with caramel, dark bread, oatmeal, prunes, hay, alcohol and lemon zest. Tasty but a tad bit hot. should have saved this for 6-12 months.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter a dark auburn brown. Aroma of boozy raisins dark fruited sugar. Flavor is caramelized figs raisins. Slight bitterness but doesn’t distract from the depth of molasses here. Nice blend for the palate and very smooth. Easily would want another bottle to lay down. Nice job JO

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, toffee, faint chocolate, and a hint of raisins. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring. The flavor starts with chocolate, caramel, raisin, and a touch of toffee. The finish has some woody/piny notes with a touch of brown sugar. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2014 Bottle: Super deep brown & translucent brown edges, khaki collar without much of a head on top. Aroma is quite sweet, lots of brown sugar & caramelized residual sweetness covered over a large dark fruit profile full of dates, prunes, & succulent raisins. A very slight cinnamon french toast essence. Moderate buttered toffee with only a tiny bit of alcoholic warmth. Taste contains more brown sugar with some molasses & mild anise. Less of a dark fruit taste than the smell suggested, but notes of dates & prunes are still there. Moderate bitter toffee, black licorice, & light perfume finish with a bit of heat from the booze. Mild Risen chocolate-caramel, too. A little undercarbonated, but pretty nice. I liked the aroma a bit more than the flavor.

Bottle. Brown pour with a reddish hue, small ring of foamy head. Aroma is like a very good scotch ale. Burnt caramel, chocolate, dates, raisins, and vanilla. Tastes pretty smooth and just a little boozy. Caramel, chocolate, cherries, dates, vanilla, and toffee. Hints of brown sugar sweetness and nuts in the finish. Medium body. Smooth mouthfeel. Nothing harsh here at all. I really enjoyed this and I don’t generally like english barleywines. I would love Jackie-O’s to dump a bunch of hops in this base beer and make an american style one.
