Like the elusive spider, this beer has been waiting patiently for the past 22 months to spring forth and show its fangs! What started off as an unassuming English-style mild ale was transformed in oak barrels with the help of some wild yeast, bacteria, and time. For 19 months, this little brown ale rested in barrels, accumulating layers of complexity with each season that passed. When the time came to blend the barrels, a gallon of local Sticky Petes maple syrup was added. For an additional 3 months the wild yeast and bacteria gorged themselves on the sugar-rich maple syrup. The result is a delightful beer with a surprising tart bite. Enjoy now, or store in a cool dark corner and allow reclusiveness to further this beers mystique.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear reddish brown color with a minimal fizzy off-white head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy sour tart fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth sticky texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sour & sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet & sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

Bottle thanks to Dan. Pours dark cola brown. Quickly dissipating brown head. Nose/taste of maple, Brett, oak and tart fruit. Taste is funky maple and fruits. Very nice balance. Another excellent Jackie Os brew.

A-pours a muddy brown with a thin light tan head. S-the nose is heavy dry oak, almost sawdusty, a decent sour cherry with notes of dark plums. T-still a fair bit of oak but the fruit flavors are slightly muffled. lots of sour cherries and some dry leathery brett behind. M-light body, highly carbonated, grainy on the palate with a fairly dry crisp finish. D-decent sour, lots of oak to it and the flavor becomes somewhat blurred as the brett is slightly overpowering and has eaten too much of the flavors.

Thanks to Thorpe for this... pours dark brown, a little watery on the fringe, an off white head, ok head but not lace... really love the nose, lots of maple syrup mixed with lactic sourness and cherries, maple comes off very nice and the balance is awesome... the taste is more sour than the nose and not as much maple or as good but still tastey, molasses, brown sugar, oak, and sour finish.. enjoyed and Id gladly have again

Yes a lower gravity sour from Brad and the crew @ Jackie Os. My Favorite of the bottles released for one funky afternoon! Hazy brown pour with a thin beige head. Aroma is really complex; pecan, maple, brett, and leather. Flavor is sour with hints of dark fruit, nutz, oaky tannins and aceto- bacter. Sour and full of brett. AWESOME

22 ounce thanks to Veldrid. Pours without much carbonation. Cola look. Some light sour in the nose. Taste is a sweet brett beer. The mixture of a brown ale, maple syrup and brett goes very well together. This is not a brown beer accidentally spiked with critters; here the blend works. But the beer needs a bit more carbonation to really shine.

In a bottle from the Jackie Os Release. Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Nose is malts, some vinegar, some slight leather, some vinegar, some acetic quality, and some earthy tartness with some wood. Flavor is similar with lingering acetone tart earthy berry/ vinous fruit, and finishes with a lingering dryness and vinegar. Funky hints throughout. Medium-bodied and a very interesting sour.

On tap at the One Funky Afternoon Release. Served in a tulip. Pours a moderate brown color with a thin off-white head and a bit of lacing. The nose has some light sourness--mostly lactic with a bit of light acetic character. Some slight dark malt in the nose along with a bit of cherry and dark fruits. The taste hits some Flanders Red-type notes with a bit of light oak. Mild sourness and low carbonation make for an enjoyable body. Really smooth with a touch of malt sweetness. Love the low ABV on this. Quite drinkable. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 04-13-2011

Sample at One Funky Afternoon at Jackie Os on 04/02/2011: The beer pours a dark brown color with almost plum colored highlights. Thin off-white head that diminishes quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of tart fruit and sweet molasses. Medium body with a moderately sour fruit character underscored by sweet malt. The finish is fruity with a mild maple and malt aftertaste. I enjoyed this one.

Sampled during One Funky Afternoon on 4/2/11. Dark brown pour with no head. Equally sweet and sour nose. The maple syrup sweetness is coming through. Malty flavor with some sourness and fruit before a sour finish. Nicely balanced sour, in the save vein (as far as sweet vs. sour) as Rodenbach Grand Cru (not too far in the sweet realm like Duchesse de Bourgogne).
