3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2009 and 2011 vintages tried side-by-side. 2009: bottle 51/156, 2011: 229/384. Both poured a dark, murky brown with a reddish hue; the 2011 was deeper and redder and the 2009 was cloudier and browner. Aroma of cherries, grapes, oak, brown sugar, and toasted malts; the berries and cabernet really comes through stronger in the 2011 but the 2009 shows more complexity. Flavor of tart cherries, grapes, and plums, along with toast and oak. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a tart mouthfeel. The 2009 is more tart and the 2011 is more vinous. Slight edge to the 2009, but both were very good.

Pours dark with a reddish hue. Aroma is Oak, cab barrels. Flavor is heavy on the cab barrels. Almost tastes like wine. Nice finish with a hint of tart at the very end. Pretty good beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Real dark red-brown body. Thin tan head. No real retention, just the lightest hints of lacing.
S: Dark cherries, red wine, oak. You can tell its going to be tart and sweet.
T: Yup. The nose was right. Sweet cherry flavors are pronounced from start to finish. The barrel aged treatment is apparent. Vinous with a nice underlying oaky current. Tart, but not overwhelming.
M: Full-medium bodied. A little undercarbonated. Nice lingering tartness, that is not distracting.
O: An interesting beer for sure. Not the most profound offering, but thoroughly deserving if you are looking for a vinous-cherry brew.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled 11/22/2009, bottle 3/156.
Pours a dark black cherry color with a half finger off-white head that quickly settles into a very thing ring. Not much in the way of lacing.
Sweet, vinous dark fruit aroma with tons of cherry and subtle barrel character. Slightly tart smelling with faint oak countering the wine and sweet cherries. Underneath thereís a touch of roasted malt but the nose of this beer is dominated by the sweeter fruit notes.
Medium bodied with a lightly puckering, tart mouthfeel thatís balanced by sweet, vinous fruit and subtle roasted malt. Nice barrel character with some dry oak that compliments the tart cherries and a nice cabernet presence that gives off some nice vinous dark fruit notes. Hints of grape and dark berries compliment the sweet and tart cherries. Thereís also a bit more of a malt presence than the nose suggests with some chocolate, toast and caramel. More dry and tart than sour with an excellently masked ABV that makes it deceptively drinkable. Well balanced and pretty flavorful. One of the better beers Iíve had so far from Jackie Oís.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle 48/384. Shared with Dosbeerigos for his 29th Bday. Had a pleasant sour aroma, hints of cherries etc, but the flavor didnít really match up all the much. It tasted like a stout that got infected, somewhat like Black Tot. I guess I just wanted a little bit more sourness in this one.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
In short: A very fruity (all kinds of red fruits) oaky/tannic dark ale. Good sipper
How: Bottle shared at RBSG 2011 grand tasting
The look: Near black body topped by a small dark beige head
In long: Nose is very fruity but not particularly cherry-fruity, I notes berries of all kinds with plenty of oak barrels. Taste more of the same. This is a very fruity beer (wild berries, cherry skin, dark grapes, even some raspberries), some chocolate, some leather, vinous notes, a lot of oak tannins. Smooth carbonation. Quite tasty and actually very good too. This was my last rating at the RBSG 2011 grand tasting and my thoughts and prayers are with all those who same to Ratebeer Summer Gathering mega-party hoping to get laid.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2011 22 oz. bottle 128/384 via trade with Tripphop (BA) - Pours a dark brown color with a 3/4 finger thick tan head. Light spotty lacing. Aroma is slight tart cherries, hints of chocolate, and light oak. Very nice. And then I tasted it. I just donít get this tart/sour craze. The flavor is much like the aroma but, just a little more tart. The dark malt and tart cherries really linger in the finish. Medium to full body. A nice beer. Thanks Tripp.
