5oz on tap at Jackie-O’s production facility. Near-black color. Thin ring of khaki head. Leaves good webs of lace. Looks the best of the 3 dark beers I had here. Great dark chocolate, nice bit of roast, touch of coffee. Nice interesting complex barrel character. Nice touch of honey, biscuity malt. Some milk chooclate. Medium to bigger body, very mild slick, lighter carbonation. Nice touch of warmth on the finish, moderate-plus sweet, good moderate bitterness too. Fantastic stuff. Not as sweet nor boozey as I feared. 8/4/8/4/17
Update rate, 1/1/16: From the 10th Anniversary bottle. Pitch black color. Thin light brown head. Leaves some decent, but mostly loose lace. Head fades to a minimal ring. Great big roasty aroma, touch of coffee, some bitter dark chocolate. Touch of honey, it seems. Some very pleasant, big bourbon oak character. Bigger bitter taste, some alcohol heat. Drinks bigger than the stated ABV. Moderate sweet, light dryness to the taste. Bigger body, though a touch thinner than some of my favorite imperial stouts. Lighter carbonation. Mild slick, then drying finish. Enjoyable blend to sip on slowly.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Like everyone else, I wondered what the ’secret’ release would be at the 10th Anniversary extravaganza. I couldn’t believe this was it - the only Cellar Cuvee that wasn’t bottled, the only one I’d never tried before. I got my full bottle allotment and a couple draft pours at the Production Facility. It pours a deep, opaque cocoa brown with a small tan head that settles into a ring and lightly laces the glass. The Dark App base made it hard to distinguish from the Spirit Beast and Cognac Dark App, especially in appearance, but also in more subtle ways. But it became more apparent after the Cognac warmed that this was CC1, with rich notes of vanilla, mild roast, cocoa, honey, brown sugar, oak, pralines, and molasses. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, smooth mouthfeel that finishes sticky. Really nice and satisfying. I liked it better than the other two new releases, by a hair.

Cap Reads CC1
Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours dark brown with a brick tint and no head, but a thin bubbly collar. The nose is date, chocolate covered raisin, molasses, dark chocolate, vanilla, maple, brown sugar, and plenty of bourbon. The flavor is a bit light with cola, chocolate covered raisin, vanilla, maple, and brown sugar, but it is very dry despite all of these sweet descriptors. The body is full with light carbonation and a long molasses, cola, and chocolate covered raisin finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled from a growler this beer poured a black color with a minimal tan head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was raisin, rum, vinegar and a touch of coffee. The flavor was tart and bitter rum, raisin, wild yeasts, almost vinegar and a bit boozy. Turns dry, herbal and a bit astringent on the long tart rum and raisin finish. Medium body and a bit oily. Interesting.

Draft samples at Jackie O’s. Pours brown with no head at all. The aroma has bourbon, chocolate, roasted malts, some cherry notes and a splash of honey sweetness. The flavor is quite interesting in that you get something from both parts. Bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits and honey sweetness with a splash of vanilla. Soft carbonation. I enjoyed this blend and hope to see it again.
